If you can still smell dish soap in a glass or whatever even if you rinsed the fuck out of it, does that mean it will taste soapy when you drink out of it?

I cant get the soapy smell out of some dishes and sometimes they end up making food or drink taste soapy even after so much rinsing and scrubbing

I left a bit too much soapy residue in a glass one time, poured myself a glass of cola, one mouthful and I knew it was still soapy. Still though, that one mouthful was enough to induce some trippy ass dreams when I went to sleep.

Yea if it still suds the soap is there somewhere. One time a family member didn't clean up a cup enough so my orange juice tasted more like soap.

Try heating them for 30 minutes or so.

Imo it's a mix of hot water and good water pressure (so you don't resort to scoring tf out of something via hard sponge).

All I know is don't rinse a pan or wok if you don't know what you are doing.

"Seasoned Pans" are a thing. And only one wash can apparently ruin them.

I didn't know that till last year, despite re-using plates for 2-3 meals in a row during a time I was using plates as my cooking (read: microwaving whatever) surface.

I still don't get it to be honest.

Like, why not just use a clean pan and add just a little extra set of blended spices to it? And a dash of salt?

Soap being bad for cast iron pans is mostly a myth these days, unless you go overboard with soap. Most soaps don't contain the ingredient that strips away the seasoning anymore.

Seasoning in the context of a (usually) cast iron pan means something completely different to the usual sense. It's basically cooking oil into the surface to make it non-stick. Cleaning too harshly with soap can destroy this, but it's not unfixable, just have to re-season it.

Don't feel too bad. The British don't rinse their dishes at all.

Mostly a myth these days. Seasoning cookware is the process of applying oil to the pan and heating it at high temperatures until the oil turns into a polymer which acts as a natural nonstick surface. Dish soap way back when contained lye which absolutely did ruin the seasoning of pans. Most dish soap today is actually not true soap at all and therefore does not contain lye, so you can safely use dish washing liquid on seasoned pans, just make sure you dry it thoroughly and never run it through the dishwasher.
