Even if they made a solid 10/10 movie with a 10/10 depiction of Rey she is still a character whose backstory/everything outside of the movie is garbage. By default if a character's entire being is not well written the best you can do is either reboot or use them as a popcorn character: a character whose characterization is so pointless so that the fact that it's garbage is irrelevant. Compare it to the dynamic between Luke and Vader in Empire or Anakin and Dooku in AoTC and it doesn't come across as all that intense.
