Fucking garbage game that was more interested in chasing shitty CoD trends than improving Halo. Loadouts, reticle bloom, and armor abilities ruined Halo. At least the single player campaign was good. But we all know you bought Halo for multiplayer, and Reach multiplayer was a drastic and embarrassing downgrade for absolutely no reason. And it straight-up destroyed Halo esports. The game killed Halo. Bungie didn't even want to make it, and it showed. But they were forced to in order to get their independence from Microsoft (along with ODST). Bungie wanted Halo 3 to be the end of the franchise. But M$ refused to let them stop making their cash cow. So they basically just used it as practice for the game they really wanted to make (Destiny, with more extensive loadout customization and more extensive abilities). One time in beta we decided to camp the upper elevator of the small map and all 4 of us had armor lock. You would think this would cause us to lose, but it must of really titled the other team and they kept blindly charging us and we won. I have mixed feeling about reticle bloom. On one hand, throwing luck into shooting is a bad idea. On the other, I loved how you needed to pace your shots, especially since you want get in body shots with the DMR and then get in a narrow headshot once their shield is down. From my understanding this wasn't how it worked at high level play. Most if not every Halo game before it has the first level is great and it begins strong. By far the easiest SLASO. 2 was just mean. Definitely my favorite halo for campaign and multiplayer. Old Halo has its own charm, but grew to feel slow, and I always loved large maps. Invasion was my favorite game type by far. Haven't played any of the new Halo beyond 4's campaign, but I might hop back on that horse if they have an even bigger Invasion-like gametype. Beyond that, it's also the only Halo that actually looks like Halo to me. Before Reach it's plastic toys, after Reach it's a billion tiny parts of questionable tactical value glued to a suit. I have absolutely no interest in Halo lore, I didn't even bother learning what 99% of things were called, maybe ODST being story focused drove me away from the series. Were the vehicles fun in Reach?
