One is a reboot's new spin that likes itself way too much. The other is the biggest blockbuster series in history not being able to squeeze out a single new idea.

Neither is good but the latter is orders of magnitude worse. Oscar Isaac did not deserve that shit man. Can't imagine how much they had to pay him for Moon Knight.

"Somehow, Palpatine returned" because it's not just a bad line, but horrible hand-wavey exposition for something that really should have been actually shown on screen rather than just mentioned in the opening crawl.

'somehow, palpatine returned' is a great line actually, it has what some writers call 'life after the line' where it simultaneously explains his current motivations and actions while exploring the type of personality he has while you're not watching him, like if he's doing things on terms of somehow you know that's a shifty guy

The somehow line just reeks of lazy writing. Like the writer put that in as a place holder, and just kind of forgot to put anything.

Since I do not give a flying fuck about Star Wars that Palpatine line means nothing to me.

So my vote goes to the far superior Star Trek.

I do think it's weird that in the entire terrible Star Wars film, people have picked up on that line specifically. It's awful, but it's pretty in line with all the other awful lines. Somehow implies that they are going to try and figure out how he returned, which they never really satisfactorily do in the context of the film. But the stupid dagger lining up with the Death Star is by far the worst part.

My name is khan. Because without context what is that. Just a dude saying his name. I honestly do mind the other line. Thw characters don't know how he did it. So it fits.

Because it shows how poorly thought out Episode 9 was because rather than follow the simple rule of "yes, and," J.J. Abrams instead wanted to stubbornly cling to just remaking the original trilogy and threw out everything that Rian Johnson set up in Episode 8, resulting in a lot of sloppy handwaving, plot holes, and aborted character arcs.

That one line is a perfect summary of Episode 9 and Abrams' approach to the sequel trilogy as a whole. People like to shit on The Last Jedi (although ironically, it seems that people are actually starting to come around to it as the best one of those three movies), but the two movies flanking it are much, much lazier.

At least the Star Trek movies are set in a different universe so the past shows/movies didn't get ruined. Sadly future Star Trek shows weren't set there besides in my head canon.
