Tbf he was a boy scout for the longest time until he wasn't. He was never a bad character but I mean, he's never gonna win a Cyclops vs Wolverine popularity contest which is what it usually boils down to.

The 97 cartoon seems to be putting Wolverine in the background more than other X-Men media. Probably a good move. I'm only 2 eps deep tho so I could be wrong on that.

Cyclops was always my favorite and the obsession w/ Wolverine always annoyed the shit out of me.

I quit the X-Men movies after the first one in like 2000 because it was basically The Wolverine Movie and Cyclops could've been replaced w/ a cardboard cutout and nobody would've noticed.
Pissed me the hell off, and for decades felt like I was screaming into the void b/c most people apparently loved those terrible fucking movies.

Cyclops was the "boy scout"/"goody two-shoes" back when it was more popular to be the "bad boy"

Times have changed a bit and people are starting to realize... No, it's good to have morals.

People hated Cyclops because he was too much of a do gooder boyscout. And then people hated him because he was too emo for Jean. And then it was because he was a jerk and apparently worst than Wolverine.

For sure. People grasp on to Wolverine so much. The X-Men movies were already all about Wolverine and then he got his solo movies and then they rebooted a X-Men cartoon and titled it "Wolverine and the X-Men". LOL.

I feel like most animated series based on comics tend to really gloss over the reality of comics. Like they don't put all the depth into them. Like taking bits and pieces and trying to create a character through it. I feel like that they do that a lot with Superman.

Eh, I've come to appreciate Cyclops over time, but for a 10-year-old kid or whatever they're pretty valid reasons. Cyclops is the team dad and the boring stick-in-the-mud most of the time (particularly during this time period), and that generally doesn't win you a lot of fans compared to the Cool Lone Wolf guys or Smooth-talking Bad Boys.

Cyclops is responsible, level-headed, considerate, authoritative, respectful. All traits generally in low-demand to a preteen boy.

He was my starter in that Marvel Heroes game a few years ago.

I always thought he was cool and saying Wolverine is your favorite X-men just because hes badass definitely needs more of an explanation.

Right, we were already well into the Wolverine and his Loser Friends era at that point. They sure as hell weren't going to let Cyclops outshine their golden boy, and since Wolverine doesn't like him, the writers don't like him either.

I always disliked Cyclops. I actually was reading the comics in the 90s, and I remember him pissing me off. Also it's funny hearing people call him level headed and responsible. He literally becomes a villain in 2012 in the comics. He had a period where he lost his mind.

Remember how it was Cyclops shaking Ryu's hand in X-Men vs Street Fighter? Like yeah Wolverine was more popular but Cyclops was right up there in importance. He was like the Leonardo of the X-Men.

The movies really did a number on how big of a deal he was I think. If the team is fine without the boy scout leader what's left for Cyclops? It wasn't just Wolverine but Xavier, Magneto, Jean and Mystique all got more stories and plot too.

Xmen likes to do multiple teams now. The comics are starting a new arc this summer with 3 teams (each team has its own comic book) cyclops has a team, Wolverine has a team and I think the third team is led by Gambit and Rogue

Comic are their own thing. I'm more referring to the movies and video games over the years.

Cyclops was up there as a mainstay back in the 90s with the cartoon and video games. Anything X-Men had Cyclops. I think that has gradually scaled back in the last 20 years due to the movies focusing on nearly every major character other than Cyclops lol. When it comes to the mainstream I think he'd be like Juggernaut tier now

But putting that aside I never got the hate he received in the original show. Especially with Logon trying to steal his woman at every turn which was.strangely overlooked by fans.
