Puzzle pirates. Like, before they added paid stuff when it was still new.

Then Maple Story. And only then WoW.

There was a brief bit of Runescape in there somewhere but it was boring.

My first MMO was Ultima online. I got two free months plus a copy of the game for free directly from the publisher as an apology for having bought Ultima 9, a game so broken at launch that the only way it wasn't going to get a massive apology is if it was published by Bethesda.

To this day, I still think it's one of the best MMOs ever created and hate that quite a few of its systems have still not been implemented in other games.

Phantasy Star Universe, playing it on the Xbox 360 with some friends. I had a blast with that one, especially playing as a... shit, I forget the name of the class now, but it's the one that specializes in using traps.

Or, if we want to get farther back and stretch the definition of what an "MMO" is, my first one would have been MajorMUD in the 90s. I was just a kid and that game not only got me hooked on the setting and would eventually lead to a D&D addiction, but it also taught me how to read faster/better and how to type quickly.

City of Heroes, probably the best MMO I've plated other than FFXIV. The community really made that game what it was, shame the new servers don't feel the same.

The first one I actually played for more than a trial period, yes. But I tried Star Wars Galaxies while anticipating WoW, just to see what an MMO was 'really' like.

All I found was a massive graveyard of empty player housing.

Conquer Online. Super chill to play, soothingly arcadey and casual, great movement system, and now completely ruined because of cash shops and lotteries.

Depends on the definition of MMO.

DragonRealms was my first MMO-type game that I played. That was back when all there was was AOL and you had to use keywords to get to a site instead of a web address. It was a TEXT BASED multi-player RPG game that people call MUDs today. I actually still go back every now and then. I started playing in like 97 or 98.

More traditional MMO: Probably Everquest 1. Started that a little while before EQ2 came out so I wanna say I started playing in 2003 or so. Then I switched to EQ2.

Final Fantasy XI for me. Had some friends try to pull me into WoW when it came out, but it didn't click. Got bored before I even hit the free trial level cap of 15.

I played Phantasy Star Online (Dreamcast, then Gamecube) before that, but I don't think that counts as an MMO?

Only MMO I think I've put any time into is Runescape.

Played it the first summer of public release then started playing again shortly before and for a few years after Runescape '2' (now OSRS) was released.

Gave RS3 a spin for a couple hours but it just doesn't have a hook for me.

I never cared much for multi-player games to begin with, so not finding much appeal out of MMOs tracks.

Played WOW for a week on a free trial and mostly just wandered around. Haven't touched it or any other MMO since.

FFXI was my first and only.

Started around Rise of the Zilart. Played for a number of months, left, came back somewhere between Treasures of AU and Abyssea (sp?).

I had some real good times, but the time sink was real. Just couldnt maintain it. Miss my galka sometimes, though.

Guild Wars was my one and only. I got talked into it by a friend. I didnt like it. MMOs arent for me.

Runescape. The first one.

I was into mining and smithing, hoping to make really good armor before getting into the game proper. But it scope creeped you like a B. It was always just a little more before you could get the next set... so in practice, I ended up just mining until I got bored and then quitting the game.

Oddly enough, I learned a life lesson from that. I had just unlocked the ability to mine iron, and sometimes it was crowded and the players with higher mining levels would get everything, in a quite unfair positive feedback loop. So, naive as I was, I protested in the chat to leave this one over here for me. I considered that more than reasonable. There were several of the ores and they would refill every thirty seconds or so, so it wouldn't really slow them down at all.

One of the players did at least take the time to respond: get a better pick, or go back to tin.

It might sound rude, and that was probably even the intent. But instead of focusing on that, I realized he was right. The world won't bend for you, even if you think it's a reasonable request.

I went back to tin. I was hell-bent on smithing all my own supplies, lol.

Nexus/Nexia, but the first MMO i really invested in was Ragnarok Online

FF XI though the one I really sank time and money into is ESO

Ultima Online. I remember a deer beat me up when I tried to attack it. That game was hardcore. You had to spend hours om every skill to get anything done

My first MMO was a game called Neocron. From what I remember, It was a European Cyberpunk/Deus Ex style MMO.

After that I played Final Fantasy XI, and then played World of Warcraft up until just before Wrath of the Lich King came out.

Havent played an MMO since.

Runescape. Stopped playing because the micro transactions became too gratuitous. Even as a Member. It's a shame because I'm one of the few who actually liked the direction RS3 was going, but I just couldn't stand getting bombarded with pop ups and ads for crystal wheels and diamond chests and the like.

Next and only other one was Age of Conan. Now that was a fun one. I wish I could get into it again but Im loo lazy for mmo games.

Tibia. I probably put in over 1000 hours on it. Good times. Then after that, MapleStory with another few thousand hours. I never tried any other mmos.

Nexus, as in Nexus Kingdom of the winds? That old isometric Nexon mmo? I think you're the only other person I've ever seen on the internet even acknowledge that game existed, let alone played it.

Did anyone ever play the super obscure MMO Dark Ages? Not "Dark Ages of Camelot" just Dark Ages? It was pixel art Asian mmo I think

Pretty sure my first MMO was Dark Ages. It was done by the people who did Maple Story, I think?

WWII Online back in 2001/2002. It was buggy as hell and a lot smaller than promised (they only had the western front in Europe) but it was still fun

I believe Legend of the Green Dragon. Pretty much dead nowadays. Improbable Island is the most active spinoff right now but it's really wordy.

Tales of Pirates Online.

Watched One Piece when it was Cartoon Network I think, so that's what attracted me to the game. Played this game for years until it was hacked, and the devs closed the servers.

My first MMO (if it counts, Im not sure) was Tibia.
