I would think not. The original PS5 was that big because they had heat control problems and needed that giant fan and extra space for airflow. It's one of the reasons why their SSD is never running at max speed and why the console was having issues overheating in those plastic boxes that get used in stores like best buy. There are probably a number of parts on the original PS5 that won't get upgraded but will get swapped for a newer generation that provides the same power but at a lower heat output.

I ended up caving in and buying a ps5 because of FF16. I wanted to wait for a pro but I'm my own worst enemy sometimes. PS5 was definitely not worth it though I should have waited.

I bought the PS5 because I still had a base PS4. I treated it as a glorified PS4 Pro, so it was worth it to me.

I only bought the PS5 because of the Spider-Man 2 covers/controller. I absolutely hate the default white PS5 theming.

Otherwise I might still be waiting lol.

Or I'd have finally caved and bought one for Rebirth.

Maybe but it's honestly not worth the effort. I'll finish up FF7 Rebirth and probably use it for a game or two from time to time.

FLOPS determines how many times a computer can do 1.1 + 1.1 = 2.2 in a second.

What about storage? Thats what actually matters.

Its measuring that how fast a gpu can crunch complex mathematical calculations in a second. Its acts a computing benchmark to see test how powerful hardware in a gpu is . All AMD use the same gpu measurement unit for their products. Higher Amd Gpu flops always means a gpu is more powerful .

Its kinda pointless? Just so some people can get their 4k/ 60 FPS mode at all times. If only there were mods to take advantage of the extra power, but for now doesnt seem worth it.

They're also likely trying to make 8k tvs popular (sell Sony Tvs), and make RT more mainstream

Could also be 4k and higher than 60fps, if the bottleneck is GPU

I bought my PS5 a year ago and have played like two games on it. It was a massive waste of money, shouldve held out for this Pro version assuming itll also be $500

The PS5 Pro is t for people who already have a PS5. Its for people like me who are waiting for that version. And in my case, its more to replace my PS4 Pro and to play the Ynicorn Overlord collectors edition I bought since Vanillaware hates PC, and I refuse to buy third parties for Switch.

It's not about mitigating those problems.

Console market is saturated. It's about trying to extract more money out of the audience that isn't growing.

Its not about that problem. Basically everyone who wants a regular PS5 has bought one, and this is the only way they can sell more of them.

Id say the main reason theyre doing it though is to make GTA 6 run better as that game will probably sell like FIFA numbers.

The PS4 to pro upgrade was way more necessary in my opinion. The PS5 is quiet, and does not struggle to run anything that ive played.

It doesn't need to be many people for it to be worth it.

If it gets 10-20 million people buying another PS5 and stay subscribed to PS+ it has done its job.

It remains to be seen how they will market and position it.

It'll be great to get PS5 pro because by that time PS5 will actually have some games.

I know the trade-in for PS4s dropped sometime either mid-late 2022 or mid 2023.

PS5 trade-ins should actually still be decent. Maybe $200ish?

Honestly it makes sense to just go Pro to Pro.

I had an original PS4, but after years it was so clogged with dust it sounded like a jet turbine when gaming, so I trade it in for a PS4 Pro because the giant heat sink made it quiet.

Ive seen no compelling reason to get a PS5 til around now when I bought the UO collectors edition, so I may as well wait for the Pro.

There is no way they're releasing a PS5 refresh that's 3 times faster than the original.

When the PS5 first launched Sony claimed that only special Sony approved ssds could be installed because theirs were so super fast that other ones in the market couldn't compete.

I don't know what they said at launch, but now they tell you compatible SSD works and give you the specs of what to buy. Xbox, on the other hand, sell proprietary expansion drives that only work for Xbox and are ridiculously expensive (like $150 for 1TB). Of all the things to attack Sony over, ease of storage upgrades has to be pretty low on the list.

Unless they drop the ps5 price and then have pro cheaper than ps5 todady, it won't sell.
But we know they won't do that. Pro will be like $800.

Not to mention will be impossible to find at release.

I barely used my PS5 outside of it being a Hulu machine for the past couple of months.

Yup. Massive gaps between releases, most of them being weak walking sims, remakes or full of mtx, weak hardware that has to choose between resolution or fps, limited backwards compatibility, etc. Worst gen ever so far.

Like many others have said, there's just not enough games this generation.

Yeah kinda crazy that some of my best experiences with the PS5 has been playing PS4 games without the console sounding like its gonna explode lmao

Honestly, I always jump on these mid-gen upgrades, but this time Im just gonna wait for PS6.

For RPG fans, the turnaround started at the beginning of this year. A LOT of good titles are coming out back-to-back.

I blame western developers and Microsoft's eternal struggle to muscle into consoles, and the console war tech spec perverts that shriek and obsess over any small flaws in the technical expectations of these games while saying nothing about the lack of innovation, crunches and layoffs, monetization, etc...
