If you're peacekeepers are you morally justified in killing someone who you consider too dangerous to be kept alive?

The correct answer is.... the Jedi are very clearly NOT peacekeepers.

He just killed 3 of 4 Jedi masters in under 5 seconds, and had been running both sides against each other in a war so had allies on every side, and could control peoples minds and cloud even master Yoda's force vision.

So no obvious not, he was completely harmless.

I wonder if cutting his hands off would have done much to weaken him?

I mean, he was an evil, mind controlling space wizard who had just killed the other four people who tried to arrest him, and he immediately blasted Mace Windu as soon as he had the chance.

Absolutely. Him leaving led to 20+ years of atrocities under the Empire.

Still amazed to this day Luke threw away his lightsaber in front of Palpatine. Yeah sure, spare your father, but the evil Emperor has to go. Not out of malice, but out of necessity.

Happens in both Legends and Canon. Just means you have to be persistent in killing his clone bodies.

It is on-brand for the kind of person/politician that Palpatine is, tbh. <_<

Like, yeah, the execution in reasoning in IX sucked but it isn't like it is out of character for Palpatine.

The Jedis were more dangerous due to their stupidity, which is why the force had to be balanced.

Keep in mind, the Jedis chose to train a mentally unstable kid in the force, and then told him not to care about the mom that they intentionally left behind to die as a slave. Somehow Jar Jar got a free ride to safety, but Anakin's mom didn't. Some negotiators.

Watto lost everything in the races. Qui Gon could have offered him the 20k credits for Anakin's mother, and he probably would have taken it and started a new life on Republic world.

I mean, Palpatines rise was a perfect unintentional foreshadowing of the Trump presidency and Project 2025. Those who were supposed to check Trumps power chose not to. Those who were supposed to check Palpatines power were effectively mind controlled not to.

Whats the difference exactly? In both cases theres one lesson to learn - you can break any law you want if those who are meant to punish you for it do nothing (or worse, support you).

Not really. Palpatine represents an internal threat to democracy. All the MAGA stuff is more of an external force, which would be closer to the Trade Federation or the separatists being villains of the week. A real Palpatine would publicly oppose to that movement in order to gain power.

Anyway, Trump is obviously just Jabba the Hutt with classified documents under his throne instead of a rancor.
