Even in Japan, tons of shonen would not be what they are without Toriyama's influence. Ultimately, I don't think he had any impact as they were rescued by a Captain, however at least he went out heroically and I definitely give him kudos for making the ultimate sacrifice in the name of saving others. No wonder he always talked about the heart of the cards, dude was all heart. Over here whilst I was at school I made a lot of black friends primarily because of Dragonball. We had Asians, whites and blacks come together talking about the show and all sharing our love for it. I remember we used to get together and print out pictures of Dragonball using the school printers and ink lol. It also influenced a lot of our groups to become artists, and made a big influence for us to get into exercising and training. A lot of us started to use the school gym when it opened, because of the motivation that Goku and Vegeta had training in the show.
