Yeah... luck stat is dumb, they removed it from D&D a while back, but I could see it justified in a world where Gods interact with mortals often.

Certainly not a good stat if your game setting is fairly realistic and low magic or doesn't have divine intervention.

I do not doubt that in many games, luck is extremely good

But I will never know because the description of the stat is always like "GEE LOOK AT THE TIME"

Luck stats can be useful but the game needs to actually explain and the explanation should not be any of the following:

Something good might happen!

It adds a bit to everything but we're not going to tell you how it works!

It does something but we won't tell you what.

Like it has some niche as the crit avoid stat in fire emblem even if its one of the weaker stats

entirely depends on the game, and tbh luck is one of the most nebulously defined stats in any rpg
i mean hell a good third of rpgs these days are like "strength influences your HP pool and carry weight"

Strength and Endurance (NOT Vitality) are pretty much the only consistent stats in terms of being able to expect what they usually do, in my experience. Every other statistic varies depending on the game/genre. For instance, in most games I've played with an Agility stat, it doesn't affect chance to be hit at all. It usually affects turn order, or dictates a resource allotment (AP in Fallout, etc)

Luck doesn't really deserve singling out here.

Does it increase damage for thrown weapons? For bow and arrow weapons? Does it increase your grip duration? Your climbing speed?

Does Endurance just increase your base defense? Your maximum HP? Your poison resistance? Your elemental resistance? The rate your food/water/sleep meters decrease? Your sprint duration?

Most games will tell you the main thing it does, or maybe a couple. Few will tell you all.

Not the full scope, sure, but it is not at all unreasonable to expect that Strength will affect your melee damage and Endurance to affect your HP/survivability (they may affect other things, but these are the most consistent things to expect), and in most cases you will be correct on at least those things.

No other stat that I've come across has that level of consistency.
