It has to be Runescape.

Runescape, or the MapleStory beta.

oldschool runescape is prob the grindiest game that can reasonably be 100% completed within a lifetime for most people. it is like a 30,000 hour goal for normal accounts. one or two dudes have done this within 5 years (Rodney Farva & Lynx Titan are two that i know about). can't imagine the time it takes for an ironman account tho esp ultimate ironman which is limited to only 1 inventory and no bank access. but prob not more than a decade worth of hours right?

there are other games w/ crazy amount of times required for niche stuff that no one cares about tho. like to max out sailing skill in black desert online would require several decades irl time (like 60+ years or some shit playing 24/7). correct me if im wrong tho im going off older online discussions about it.

My mind first went to digimon story cybersleuth bc to max out your mons you have to fully evolve them and then de-digivolve them multiple times and it's such a dang chore even with hax.

The most grindy mmo I ever played personally was Ultima Online. That game was crazy. I had a subscription for a few months I think but I don't think I ever actually succeeded in killing anything. I remember trying to fight a deer and getting my ass kicked. That game you had to grind for every possible skill. Everything took forever to get good at

Warframe

There's Kingdom of Loathing, which probably has more non-randomly generated individual items than any other game. There's no way, unless you're filthy rich and crazy, to get All The Things.

Maplestory in its early age by far. There was a time it would take people a whole year to gain a level.

Everything in that game was at least a little fucked. I remember playing all the games I could every day for NP and I never got close to buying anything cool anywhere. And the troll NPC quests that sent you out to find some item that cost tens of thousands of NP in any player shop and rewarded you with an item that you couldn't even sell for a couple hundred.

That is interesting though. And cute lol. I got my mom to race me in CTR and SA2B occasionally, but that's about all the gaming she'd do.

I stay away from grindy games for the most part but Warhawk requires a ton of time to hit max rank. I missed out on the platinum for that game cause I lost my origonal profile and I could not hit that rank on my new profile.

Gotta put in over a 1000 hours to reach that.

Runescape is probably the one free mmorpg that most CEtizen are familiar with. However I don't think it's the grindiest one. UltimaOnline is older and thus it's probably grindier than Runescape. Tibia is most likely grindier than Runescape. That game doesn't have a freaking level cap!!

For single player game, I remember playing a puzzle game where you could enter the exact seed number to generate the playing board. I can't remember the detail but assuming they used 4-bytes as seed, completing all possible board would take ages. 4.29 billion board is no joke.

It's probably Maplestory. In 2021, they increased the max level from level 275 to 300, but the exp curve is insane. At level 294 it takes around 800 hours of grinding to level up once. Then at 295 the exp jumps up and it takes over 1500 hours to level up once. And it keeps going up. The highest level player is level 299 now and it took him 1 year of constant grinding to get from 295 to 299. Like there was a stream where he played for over 48 hours straight. That's the kind of constant grinding he's doing.

I loved that game so much. Put 1,350 hours into it in the first 7 months. I just played, never went out of my way to get platinum trophy but got that around 750 or 800 hours. I was just having fun and grinding to get an ultimate weapon in fire, water, air, and earth as well as a non elemental one. So 5 ultimate swords.

I enjoy grinding and find most console games too short. I tend to play single player rpgs and dont play mmos so this was a refreshing experience.

I want to know what happened to Grumdrig! I hope they release the DLC soon.

I'm gonna say MapleStory as well, although that's really the only one I know. The highest level player in the world is almost level 300, the current maximum level, and he grinds with the best possible exp available and he grinds as much as possible, sometimes falling asleep while grinding. He hit level 296 June 18, 2023. On the leaderboards currently, he is level 299 with 705.6 trillion exp and is supposedly going to hit 300 in a couple months.

osrs is possible to max xp within 5 years for the most efficient players playing like 16 hour days. it has like a 4.6 billion xp cap atm. soon to be 4.8 billion apparently

Korean mmos. They make u grind everything. Especially ones where they purposely rigged the rng.
