A.I. should be free. I shouldn't have to buy points to make a picture. Why? Because the A.I. stole pictures from the sum of humanity to produce that image. Sam Altman didn't make that image, millions of humans did and the A.I. only exists because it was all public domain or on the internet.

Iirc Microsofts work is based on Open AI, so this would likely effect that as well.

Could be horribly wrong, haven't kept on the news

Microsoft is an investor in OpenAI but the AI tech they use for copilot is proprietary.

Same could be said of art that people make. They had to see and learn from what other people have done. I guess except for cavemen.

So the difference is that people are just a lot slower?

  1. people cannot copy work that was already done as there is already laws against that
  2. you claim the training is the same but I proved you wrong. Looking at a few works as a person is nothing like uploading billions of works and running an algorithm.
  3. and the production is different as well. people doing it requires work. In said work even trying to make an exact replica doesn't go so well because people are not like machines. They introduce variation and their own style and touch. A.I. doesn't do this. It can literally spit out millions of exact to near replica in a fraction of a second.

there is no contradiction

re-read and try to grasp it. the point is humans produce variations and a.i. doesn't. a.i. cannot make novel styles as their only output is a hodgepodge of what the algorithm spits out. humans do this through their own imperfections.

Most works of art humans make is derivative trash. Theres a reason most songs, books, etc are bad.

OpenAI continuing to move away from being a non-profit is concerning. A for profit company will never be able to actually care about safety anywhere near as much as is needed when working towards human level or better AGI.

You're the one saying AI makes exact replicas, but have you actually seen any exact replicas? Meanwhile, you have human-made counterfeits so well done that experts can't figure out the authenticity of some of them to this day.

No I said A.I. can do it with 0 effort. Humans cannot.
Those you claim are exact replicas are still not exact replicas and they took extreme amount of talent and work to produce, more than it takes to make a novel painting.

A.I. just smashes a bunch of pictures together to create a new one. Humans make a new picture by envisioning something in their head but it not coming out like what the envisioned because it takes work and humans are imperfect and during the process things happen and change including their minds. A.I. does none of this.

What does work and talent and effort have to do with it? Mona Lisa is still Mona Lisa whether it was done by work, or by immortal monkeys and typewriters in a timewarp.

And there you're admitting that AI does make new things.
