I do not feel the same way. I think a truly paranoid person would pair up earlier than either JC or Lea did and JC didn't seem worried at any point

I don't mind FD. He hasn't done anything to make me feel like he's scum yet. Honestly, I was looking forward to some productive night chatter but alas, in the name of avoiding stagnation and hoping for something exciting to happen, it just wasn't meant to be.

I don't think he just rolls the dice as scum here. He had outs. He outright declined pairing with me.

I'm thinking of this less as a "who is scum" and more of a "who offers the least utility to town".

Low-hanging fruit, I know, but given the nature of this game with everyone being able to talk during the night phase, the more chatter, the better. So if they're not willing to pony up, I'd rather leave them to the wolves.

Isquen Death and Corrik are confirmed town imo

Leaning town on you too as you've been too willing to gambit your date to break up other ones. Could be an audacious scum play but I think it's a lot and just makes more sense as town

Corrik is an asset to town if allowed to live sufficiently long

You should want them ousted if you think they are scum, not because they're dead weight

Consequently, if they're scum, they cruise on by in a game format where all it takes is just one person to protect scum from getting lynched. Maybe I'm being overly paranoid, but I feel like that possibility could be very real later down the line.

I don't think any of the three profile as the type of player that would find that gambit worth risking

Isquen is a perennial early game mislynch
Corrik literally almost got specialed last game
Death is a conservative player in general

Healthy paranoia is good but you should consider the player first

Anyone else feel uneasy about JC? As if he were a little too desperate to find someone to hook up with once the pool started dwindling? He had one good post about Dumey vs. Chris, but otherwise, most of his content has been skirt chasing Lea and even proposing to Isquen at some point. In particular, his last couple of posts have more or less been hard-focused on finding someone to pair up with.

oh i definitely didn't want to be in the last 3 so there was totally some desperation

i just don't really have many thoughts at the moment since i'm still figuring out how to approach the game and we're going to kind of just stall until a claim happens anyways, as i mentioned earlier. i'm satisfied with my pairing for now and that's all the day really needs so i don't feel the need to try and share for the sake of having content, especially when i think it'll be much easier to discuss things in a night chat (which can then be reshared later).

i trust lea and i will figure something out and if she's actually scum then she kind of has to at least perform trying to figure something out! and of course if i see something sus i will point it out

Players in the last three I would not give a pass in this situation would be like Chris and Lea, and even them would be a stretch to go this far

There's nothing "coasting" about it, Kirby. Cruising, maybe, but not coasting, and I'm not settling for just anyone when I smell a couple of rats.

I'm just concerned that I accidentally gave scum a very convenient out to pair up and leave the lynch pool with just town. Very boneheaded play if that's the case. I'd feel bad if FD had to pay the penance for my faus pax.

i just had a long damn day after work, most of which was uncomfortable and/or miserable and what exactly is going on? I'm scum because I pointed out something dumey said that was inconsistent because it was? And I'm being accused of "nitpicking without arguing against dumey" when I in fact consistently kept dumey in my list of people I'd prefer to see "lynched" today?

I don't think a scum Lopen would fully commit to my mislynch in this way, but it also doesn't make any damn sense. Then again maybe he would and he'd just say "welp, guess I was wrong, whaddya gonna do?" after.

I see the semblance of logic there, but I'm not sure I fully agree with the conclusion either. We're in an uncharted game mode here and Corrik is the king of 'see you day 2' playstyle regardless of alignment. I could absolutely see a scum corrik miscalculating with an assumption that he'll be allowed his day 1 past like he nearly always is. And then Isquen and death weren't around a whole lot so you can't even say them trickling down to the final 3 was a product of them not trying to date any more than it was a product of 2 pairs coming together so quickly from final 7 to final 3. But even if it __is__ true and all 3 are town, I am not one of the jokers that found an early pair and peaced out. This attack against me makes no sense.

Yes, it does. It's certainly the worst I've felt about Kirby since my town-lean on him earlier today. Especially after I was told by several people that my read on him was wrong and Kirby should still be considered for a day 1 death.

I'm not 100% sure what it means, you haven't left much of an impression on me so far this game so I'd need to go back and read you more fully.

My contention is with Lopen saying you must definitively be town by virtue of not accepting those invitations. (I'm not even sure off hand if your activity overlapped with those offers still being on the table, for example).

Granted I may have been a bit too dramatic in doing so.

I mean, nothing says we can't make up and get back together.

Really, I just wanted to shake things up because Death, Corrik, and Isquen as a finale to the day would've been incredibly boring. I want Red in there dammit

But also morbid curiosity to see if Lopen would actually stay true to his word. This dating mechanic is interesting, but I'm still trying to get a feel for what kind of info we can get from it. Seeing who's actually willing to break up and risk being lynched can be useful info for later on.

I legitimately felt good about kirby and was looking forward to our chat. Not just from a "I believe he is town and I don't want to be responsible for keeping scum alive" perspective, but also generally from a "I think kirby might be the person I've played the least mafia games with?" I'm not sure if I played with him before last game, he wasn't around in any of the games since I started playing again last July~. It felt like a good opportunity to pair with someone I wasn't too worried about being scum and someone I could get to know better.

Yeah I was just re-reading your messages before you slept. I had remembered that you made a point of not dating before bed, but couldn't remember if that's because you were choosing to ignore requests or choosing not to make requests of your own.

But I still don't see how it's alignment indicative in the way Lopen is claiming. For all you knew there would be MORE unpaired people by the time you woke up, not less, so he's tossing you town credit for pairings that happened to have occurred while you weren't around. It doesn't strike me as logically sound.

That certainly is a thing that you are allowed to think, but I think it's just a possible that there could be 2 scum in the remaining 7 who would be utterly unconcerned by the pairings that are happening around them.

Most people seen to have the expectation that scum would NOT self pair on day 1, but even just a single level of WIFOM would make it appealing them for them to try for exactly that reason. So only 1 scum would need to find a pair early on and the other two can wring their hands until they're forced to make a late-hour pairing. And no one would judge them for it because self preservation will justify you taking any pairing available when it gets down to the wire.

So my own guess is that there was 1 scum in the first 3 pairs (red/ulti, peaf/dumey, sultan/mzero) and 2 scum in the remaining 9 (or 7 after kirby and I paired up, if Kirby is town) who simply aren't worried about self-pairing.

All three of you showed selectiveness and dug your own graves so to speak

Isquen is the only one who counts imo. He was making overages to Lea when she paired with another. But the other two? No

Death was asleep and Corrik has made no actual effort to pair with anyone.

And I maintain sleeping Death doesn't count because for all he knew there would be a rash of breakups and there would be 11 unpaired again rather than 3, it was entirely out of his hands who would have chosen to pair or not pair while he was gone.

But it's late and I need to sleep. I had a pretty miserable day and I wasn't expecting to be back on the chopping block after what I felt was a pretty good day of being active in the morning/afternoon. Especially now that I'm heading into my in-office Tuesday which is when I have my least availability of the whole week to be on my phone. Some weeks it's not bad and work is slow, but tax season is picking up so that's not likely.
