Never owned one. I'd like a PS5. I won't play it, it'll just be a decoration for the memes.

Christmas of 1997. Got it with FFVII, Crash Bandicoot, and Croc.

I also went to Walmart the next day to get another game with the money I got. My choices were either Beast Wars - which had just released and had no reviews yet - and SotN, which I knew was one of the best reviewed Playstation games.

I went with Beast Wars. IGN's review went up a day or so later, and the score was a 2-point-something. They were right.

I was in the Navy when it came out. Stationed in Norfolk Virginia and living in a townhouse in Virginia Beach. A buddy and I were reminiscing about how awesome NHLPA 93 and NHL 94 hockey was on the Sega Genesis one night and we ended up going out to a Target that was open all night. This was new to me as where I'm from in the midwest back in the 90's things closed at like 2100.

So we went out to Target at like 0100 and I bought the playstation and a hockey game. This was in 1995.

PS1, in the 90s, i don't remember exactly when. 97-98?

ps3 in 2011 i borrowed it for playing sonic 06 unleashed gens and penguins of madagscar and literally nothing else lol but i didnt own it til 2011 when the person gave me theirs

Like 1995 or 1996. I had a Sega Saturn but then I traded it in for a ps1 when I realized ps1 had better games. I know I had my playstation before ff7 came out.

PS1. '98, towards the beginning of the year.

PS1. Late 90s. This was the first console that made me a gamer. My family had earlier consoles but I didnt play them much.

Bought used from my cousin so I could play FF7.

It was right when they did the very first update version, he got that whenever the hell that was.

I went from SNES -> N64 -> PS2 and think I was in 7th grade, so 2002/3 ish?

I also didn't get it for or with any of the more famous series other than maybe a WWE wrestling game and Soul Calibur.

The games I remember playing the most were Soul Calibur ll, War of the Monsters, Jade Cocoon 2, Champions of Norrath, Giants: Citizen Kabuto, and War Jetz. Oh, and Twisted Metal: Black, so I guess I did have a few from mainstream series.

I bought a Vita in like 2014 and still have it to this day.

If we're only talking about the home consoles, me and my brother got a PS4 in like 2017, but I didn't play it very much and I haven't touched it in years.

I got a PS2 for Christmas around when FFX came out.

PSX, 1996. Pretty sure it was 1996.

PS1. Early 1996. The first game I remember getting was Resident Evil 1 shortly after it came out in that neat long box.

Christmas, 1998. The first games I got were this one licensed Rugrats game and Crash Bandicoot 3: Warped.

I got a PS2 after PS3 came out. Got it dirt cheap and binged all the classics that summer.

June 1996 and bought Street Fight Alpha long box with it. Then that day or next I rented Resident Evil, but I never got far because I never had a memory card yet. That was a new concept for me.

Christmas 98. We had rented one once or twice before.

A friend had FF7, and after watching him play it a bit, I absolutely had to get it. Oddly enough, despite being a big fan of FF4 & FF6, Id never seen any ads for FF7 prior to it coming out.

We were a Nintendo family until the PS2. But that gen I had all 3 anyways. Worked my ass off as a kid mowing lawns and shit to round out that gen lol

Sometime after ff7 released. I think my second game was Tekken 2

ps1 in 1996. got tekken 2 with it. i remember getting off the bus, walking home flipping through my star wars cards, and my mom greeting me with a guess what? and she took me to get it.

A PS1 sometime in 1997. I remember FF7 being my first game. I also remember only having a Zenith TV at the time which didn't play well with PS. I didn't let a bit of screen jumping stop me though.

One thing that saturn did better than ps1 was you didn't need a memory card. You could save on a hard drive. I think it was the first console to do that. Was way ahead of its time

Christmas 97'

I originally asked my folks for a sega saturn, which I did get. Sat down with my dad and bro while we played virtua fighter 2, daytona usa, virtua cop, and the homerun derby on that world series baseball demo disc.

After about 2 hours or so, my dad asks me "so while these games are fine, are you absolutely sure you want to keep the saturn?"

I thought about it, thought about just how bad I actually did want to play final fantasy 7 but I also happened to like a lot of sega's IPs like sonic and streets of rage and figured the saturn was going to get a follow up for these two any moment. Made the snap call to take it back and go with the PS1 w/ a copy of final fantasy 7.

God damn did that ended up working so well for me in the end. Played the bullshit out of that PS1. The saturn never did end up getting a true sonic sequel and streets of rage vanish for over a decade so I dodged a bullet.

*While the saturn does have a damn good import game library, teenage me didn't know wtf a import was so it wouldn't have done me any good at the time period. I think the most I might have seen was at a anime vhs related store in my local mall that had like saturn street fighter vs. x-men with that expansion ram cart for sale.*

I actually had a nintendo 64 before I had a PS1. I got the N64 during it's launch year for christmas 96', but as cool as mario 64 was it was a barren wasteland for rpgs and many other genres. I was absolutely crushed that my favorite 3rd party devs like capcom, konami, namco, squaresoft, etc. were putting all their stuff on the PS1. Being like 13 in 1996 I didn't know about the behind-the-scenes in the video gaming world things like nintendo pissing off a lot of their 3rd party supporters and thus why the N64 had a rough time in that department in comparison to the PS1.

I played the demo disc for a long ass time before I saved up enough for Alien Trilogy and Krazy Ivan.

The original Playstation. Probably in its 2nd year.

It was at some point prior to fall 1999. My dad got it from someone he knew along with a multitude of games with the most notable being Metal Gear Solid. After playing the demo disc's given out at Pizza Hut that fall, I would eventually get FFVIII along with THPS and Spyro 2. Hard to believe that was 25 years ago.

used local game store ps2 around 2009 or 2010, modded it using a bunch of random shit around the apartment to block sensors and my roommate's swap magic disc to install freemcboot

I used my bday money and then my dad made up the difference. I had no games and no memory card, so it took until Christmas for me to do much more than play a couple rental games that I couldn't even save my progress on.

OG PlayStation. Had to have been 96. Kings Field 2 was the first game I had for it.

I think christmas 2000, maybe 2001. It's the smaller, light grey model. I still have it, but don't have it hooked up since the ps2 can play its games.

Ps1 with a dualshock controller (loved that thing... even used it on my ps2 whenever i could, sadly i ended up breaking it in the end, due to treating the cable too harshly)

Dont remember quite when but early 2000s i think. Wasnt technically mine either but shared with my sister. She just never used it. Both of us later got ps2s. Her a slim, me the fat model. idk when she got hers (i believe it was after me) but i got mine used with a couple of games for my 14th birthday in 2007.

Christmas 97 my mom got a bonus check a got me a PlayStation with freaking Frogger, I was excited but bummed she picked such a lame game luckily she ended up getting me FF7 and RE2 shortly after
