Should they? This is generally speaking, obviously there can be exceptions you're okay with (ie a mass murderer or outright treasonous traitor to your country being stripped of their right)

I see a justification for not allowing (violent) felons to vote but I also fear misuse of the power so I don't think felons deserve their right stripped.

What exactly is the reasoning behind removing the right to vote from felons anyway?

I'm inclined to believe someone shouldn't be able to vote in prison, but my convictions on that are to the point where if someone says "yes they should" I will immediately fold and agree.

If you're a citizen of the country you should have a say in how it's run. Nobody should lose their right to vote.

They should lose the right to vote only while within prison. Probation and owing fines should not remove it.

I would say only if you were specifically treasonous. Or did something that sold out your country and put it's citizen's in danger. Realistically, that's pretty damn hard to prove and would be probably better off just allowing everyone the ability to vote.

The reasoning is by committing some level of crime you have harmed society and the civilization enough that you no longer get to participate in some of the privileges afforded to the good actors.

Its not a uniquely American idea and has existed in some form going back to the Greeks.

The only people who should lose the right to vote are those who are guilty of voter fraud. And even then, they should be restricted with provisional votes.

No.

I do think if you choose not to vote then you cannot vote again unless you pay a fine.

And before anyone asks what if you hate all options.

Include two options on your ballot along the lines of
Abstain - Uninformed
Abstain - No agreeable option

The same reason why there is an exception for the abolishment of slavery for imprisonment.

The only reason somebody should lose their right to vote is being convicted of a crime directly related to abuse of the voting system. Otherwise even people in prison should be able to vote.

I voted "other". You shouldn't be able to vote in prison and fines shouldn't count against you.

It is a Jim Crow leftover. Incarceration > Chain Gang > Disenfranchisement > Rinse & Repeat.

A few states did have it earlier, but most adopted it after the Civil War (late 1860s-1870s).

The Constitution says nothing about it, but the SCOTUS has ruled that states can do it, so long as they violate nothing in the Constitution in the process (election laws are state laws).

A few years ago we here in Florida successfully voted for felons voting rights to be restored. I think it ultimately got vetoed by the powers that be though but I could be mistaken

They put immense restrictions on it, telling former felons they need to pay upwards of 100k to get their rights back or essentially a poll tax.

If they owed that much, yes. The legislature, after the constitutional amendment, made it so they had to pay any and all court costs, fines, and restitution back before they became eligible. That is still being challenged now iirc.

The fascist of a governor also used law enforcement as his personal secret police and went out and got a bunch of phony arrests against felons that voted during the last election to scare people from trying to vote in the future.

Florida really is a political mess.

I think the only people who should actually lose their right to votes are people who committed crimes in the name of politics, like those people in South or North Carolina (I think) who were going around, collecting people's ballots, and then throwing them away.

That is how I feel in my heart, however I understand that could be abused (though it would certainly be abused far less than states preventing it for all felons), so probably better to say you should never lose your right to vote.
