Finished the original DS game after deciding I would replay that, before starting the games I had not yet played.

Somehow these games hit way harder now I am older. Although Serenade was still a slog. Mainly just the music parts, and the case feeling like one of the more linear ones.

I know very little of the 3DS titles. I looked up the chronological placement of the bonus/DLC cases and figured for Dual Destinies, playing it between chapters 2 and 3 would be best.

Also, what is with the obnoxious shipping and teasing of Apollo and Trucy in the first game? Playing it with full knowledge gets creepy and cringy at times. Thank goodness one of the things I do know, is that very anti-climatically, Phoenix just informed them in-between games, so there should be no more of that. It does not even have the Star Wars excuse, of only deciding the two are siblings in the sequel...

This Payne is and sounds, quite a bit more evil.

Also, does Athena have prosopagnosia? That was a seriously freaky flashback.

Edit: No! No ship sinking. That opening scene made Athena and Juniper seem like such a cute couple.

It has the Japan excuse, where they don't see incest as being as big of a deal as the West does.

That was an amazing first case and despite being just an opener, it had everything. (Just comparing to Serenade here, since even on a replay, I felt like one barely learns anything about what actually happened, it just mainly focussed on the aftermath)

Also, that Confession music, was not expecting it to go that hard.

And then conveniently never mention it again?

Also, 3 screens in, went through all talk and present options and now I am stuck?
Did the game mess up by not giving me explore options, or was that changed in such a way in the 3DS games that it becomes unintuitive on Switch?

I suppose I will do the stupidly insane thing and present the same thing to Jinxie again. And then I am truly all out of options.

Edit: Wait what? First Trucy nearly strangles Apollo with her magic panties for shoving his badge in Jinxie's face and 5 seconds later you do it again to progress?
Game... Please! Badge shoving is a tradition. Making it both a comedic "do not do this" and progression within 2 minutes, with the same character, is insanely counter-intuitive...

Started up the game again, immediatly reminded of what I disliked last time playing.

Rubber faced (one off) witness, sure fun. Rubber faced Detective (with meh music theme), annoying.

Can we just go back to Ema already?

Edit: I must admit, he is somewhat capable. Ruling out a suspect based on them being unable to wield the murder weapon, this guy would have seriously shortened Serenade.

And the good music keeps coming in.

I loved the way they had Apollo put together the case at the end and it even got a new amazing theme.

I vaguely recall Dual Destinies being the more unpopular game of the series, but as of yet I have come across nothing that would explain that.

I always liked DD quite a bit. Never heard it was unpopular. I did hear that about AJ:AA, though I wonder is DD unpopularity had anything to do with the Download only thing. Though, that would affect SoJ, too, so IDK

Now that I think about it, it is probably just every game but the 1st and 3rd. But that's fine, I have yet to play an AA game I actually disliked.

I think I now get why this was the DLC case. Has AA ever been this self-aware?

Although kinda expecting that only day 1 will be the defence of Orla, even with the eternal mockery of "defending the orca", being the defining factor of the case in the discourse.

I guess Marlon getting Tanuki's theme, means it is not actually his theme and just the generic weird/silly/whatever people for this game? Meaning two of the recurring themes are annoying, with one even only being used for the same annoying character. What were they thinking, with making Fullbright as annoying and obnoxious as they did?

I guess this case really proves that the one thing I would like to see from AA (more interconnectivity), would probably just result in ill-suited references every other line with these writers.

Still, for this one case it was fun. I also feel like every aspect was included as a reference to a previous case, makes me wonder whether every case received a reference?

By now Blackquill is starting to feel like a do-over of Barok van Zieks (pre-over, I know this originally came first). (For some reason I remembered that name as a von and German, not Dutch, huh...) Everything seems to be against the guy and I just want to give him a hug. Let's hope he is distinguished somewhat from (or better put, the writers properly distinguished Barok from him)

Case 3, initial impressions. Feels like it has been a while, since I played a somewhat regular AA case for the first time, without the story just telling you who did it.

Initial guess, the story wants us to suspect Means, Robin and Hugh. Which would imply to me they have random, unrelated, reveals that will take up some time in court.

Robin Newman: gender neutral name and "New man", leads me to believe the reveal is that Robin is either a transman, or a woman crossdressing.
Hugh O'Connor: Huge and O''Conner', going by his looks, he is lying about his age for some reason? He looks older than half the "young" cast, despite being listed as 18.

Means: would be my guess for the actual killer. Connecting neatly to the myth arc and all that.

Chronologically yes and I think it was completely self-contained regarding the story of DD, only using Bobby and Blackquill for some reason.

The case absolutely should have started with Gumshoe being the one who tries to find a willing prosecutor, maybe even have him as the Chief of Police and having him be excited about Wright's return. Only for that to backfire on him when the only Prosecutor willing to take the case, keeps whipping him...

Uhm, game, these insistent reminders that Robin is a man, are getting a bit excessive...

Over the top insistence that something is a certain way and not another way, does not make that another way a good reveal when it is finally revealed, it will just receive a "we know! stop treating us like idiots!" response.

Although, I would prefer to be proven wrong. Thinking you have things figured out before the first day of trial, and then day 1 of trial seems to confirm things, AA should never be that obvious on a mid to late game case...

Edit: now that I think about it, using Widgit to go through the emotional discord that is gender dysphoria, would be amazing if the writers could pull it off, but so easy to mess up and come across as belittling and insulting...

Edit2: of all the words the game/writers could have chosen for Simon to describe Hugh, it had to be juvenile...

And there's the age reveal... At least having a license for operating heavy machinery is a funny way to reveal it.

Still, since now it is 2 for 2, will this case actually manage to surprise me beyond this point, or was everything truly that painfully obvious from the very beginning?

Edit: Out on a stroll? I love Simon.

Have not played since starting Case 4, but still wanted to put some thoughts to text.

Turnabout Academy feels way too small for a case that took place at a school. 4 students and 2 teachers? At the very least we should have met the Prosecution Faculty Head. (Which also made me realize the two balcony set-up makes no sense, if there are supposed to be 3 Faculties...)

Realizing the structure DD has been going for, I am afraid Case 4 is going to be as dark and depressing as 3-4 was. I also feel like the narrative just skipped over something, with Apollo just deciding to wear an eyepatch out of nowhere...

This game was told sort of out of order. So, chances are they explain the eyepatch later As I have played these games before, I know they explain at least to a degree because I remember the reason

I dont think so. They seem different enough. Poncho was made to be a robot companion for when people started colonizing planets and stuff Where widget is used more for helping Athena analyze witnesss emotions. The faces of the robots match widget due to Metis created then, though While they are similar is some of the things they can do, they were created for very different purposes, based on what I remember

I made that statement after coming across Ponco for the first time. The name Metis rings no bells for me.

Just finished the case, I suppose that is a twist, but (thankfully) not 3-4 levels of dark and depressing. I doubt we are going the route of "the defence lawyer did it" (that already happened last game), so the evidence has to be fake or misinterpreted in some way. So either somebody planted the prints on the lighter (Foolbright has opportunity, but that would be insanely silly), Foolbright unintentionally contaminated the evidence (still silly, but more in character), or something very weird is going on...

I have been wondering what country this "Phantom" could have been/be an agent of. I doubt this game-series would name any real-life counties, so no Russia, China, North Korea etc... But since we know they struck at the very least 7 years ago, that would make it perfectly plausible as a retaliatory action for certain international events set in motion by Edgeworth 8 years ago.
