I remember finally making it to the end after playing that game for years as a kid then got hit with that message. Said fuck that shit and quit. I recently played it on the Switch SNES thing using save states. Decided to look up the mechanics after I beat it the first time since I had forgotten about it. Not only do you have to beat it a second time, you have to beat it while holding a particular item.
