The game is still fun, but imagine getting straight up fatigue from a platforming level.

I feel really sorry for completionists that try to do everything and get every gem and box in a level. I just beat the level and never look back, the 100% route seems like an exercise in madness. 8 gems per level, seriously?

Yeah if platforming levels are linear generally don't make them super long with tons of missable collectibles. Especially if the gameplay is relatively simple.

Yea I was so hyped for Crash 4 but ended up not liking it at all. Extremely disappointed. Didn't even finish it when I loved the original PS1 games as well as the N-Sane Trilogy remaster. I don't know if Vicarious Visions would have been better, but I wish they would have made Crash 4 instead of Toys for Bob.

I liked the hookshot idea. But lol the cortex gameplay is something else. Still plays better than the ps2 game though

Yeah, it was fun to play through, but fuck trying to 100% it. (I say this as someone who did 100%, including platinum relics and DLC levels, the N Sane Trilogy.)

Though I do have to say Off Beat might just be the best Crash level so far.

I think the difficulty was overblown. I got the platinum and only a handful of levels gave me a hard time. I believe the level where you play as Dingodile and Tawna was the only level I thought was too long

it's not necessarily the difficulty, but rather how tedious and unfun it gets. sorry, you missed a box somewhere, do it all again, sorry you died, do it all again.

and the inverted level where everything's slow and sloggy and underwater? fuck. off. that shit was straight up just trolling the player. do it all again except 50% slower

I think they just mean if you got the gem in the normal level you wouldn't have to do it in the N. Verted
the game does at least have the mercy of not requiring you to get N. Sanely Perfect Relics normal and N. Verted for max completion but that's as nice as it gets.

my opinion of Crash 4 is that at its best, it is absolutely on par with the originals. the problem, those times when it is as its best: perfect controls, few (if any) significant glitches, and no cheap ass hidden boxes, are absurdly rare, and the rest of the game is slogging through ridiculously long levels looking for boxes to such a point where you almost feel like giving up on them

fun fact: Naughty Dog added boxes to begin with mostly for self-admitted padding - it gave the players something to do, and they would extend short levels considerably, but they would never drag the pace down. Crash 4 perhaps best illustrates the original intention of boxes more than any other game in the series - without boxes, the game just ends, and with them, its a nightmare that never ends.

Yeah, the game is fine for one playthrough, but i dont think the devs understood why crash games were fun to 100%, if anything crash 1/2/3 were already too hard to 100%

Maybe they were trying to cram more value, also the need for a yellow circle under crash should have been an indication to the debs the game wasnt designed in an ideal way

the game is long enough without getting 100% though. It seems more like the amount of crates is used as complaint instead of the resulting difficulty. Maybe in 10 years you will be glad there is something to do since there won't be another Crash game in the near and not-so-near future.

some are fine, to be fair. it almost seems like different people decided different levels, instead of one designer with a vision for how they should all be

I tried that and I still don't like it. Just feels annoying and unfun, doesn't feel tight. Almost if it has no soul, game looks nice though.

For those of you who want to plow through the game and "plat" it and be done with it and move on the game will likely suck.

For me who played it and had fun it but played it sparingly when I felt like doing some levels, it was a great time. I also think all the collectable stuff is insane and too much but I also don't care to do it and simply do what I feel like doing.

I really think they intended to cram as much shit as possible because they didn't think there would ever be a 5. I don't blame them for that but I also understand the complaints.

Yeah speaking as someone who 100%ed the original trilogy on PS1

Crash 4 is not fun to 100%.

It's fun to beat the main game but I gave up on doing everything. The levels are all so long, the amount of crates is ridiclous, so many are missable and you have to do every level twice due to inverted mode.... It's just not good design.

It makes me think of people who 100% all of the additional maps in Arkahm City/Knight with all characters.

Yeah I didn't like how long the levels were. Very different from the original trilogy. Even ignoring the collectibles, the levels felt like slogs. I wasn't having fun like I did with the trilogies. Still haven't gone back to beat it

Ah, yeah that level is notorious for making people rage. And the remake actually makes it harder because of the changes to the physics.

If it helps, you can try to cheese it by jumping into the ropes on the side. It's still a hard jump to land, but I've you're up there you can just walk across.

So thing is I did that when it came to the first instance of that stage and yeah it always works but just like every video game platforming trope it's the 2nd time (BUT NOW ICE PHYSICS) that they took way too far in this particular game.

Not like Mario or Donkey Kong Country where the programmers mercifully tweaked ice friction so you could stick landings or backstep strategically...nope, these bastards literally made the rope slippery too so when you jump you have even less room for error landing on the floor pixels without walking off. Ugh

That's not unlike the original trilogy which had good levels and bad levels. For my part the levels I loved in 3 (my favorite of the Crash games) were the ancient egypt/medieval times/arabian nights levels, and I disliked everything else. Those were the only levels I bothered to get gems for and do some time relics which I never like or bother to do

I died I believe 127 times on the fucking goddamn second to last level.

I loved almost every level in Crash 3. Especially the vehicle levels. The variety was so cool to me as a kid. Crash 2 is still my favorite because I loved all of the cool hidden levels

I think the most I died was 75 or so deaths on the last level. And I had played the original trilogy, Wrath of Cortex and Twinsanity many times.

Though ironically enough I think that last level (Cortex Castle) once you get used to it is one of the rare really good levels in Crash 4. The one before it (Toxic Tunnels) is an absolute abomination that never. knows. when to fucking END.
