Was hoping for another legendary 5-1 drubbing again so AFTV could go mad.

Madrid - City was great

Many of the goals were top class, what a match.

Whoever scheduled these games at the same time should be crucified.

I think the problem is that both Atletico and Real Madrid were drawn at home in the 1st leg, so they have to play on different days. Once you pencil that in, you have to either have Madrid and Barca playing at the same time or Arsenal and Man City... and I guess they decided that Madrid and Barca were more important commercially to keep apart.

I tried to jump between both games and to be honest it kind of damaged my enjoyment a bit. Still a great night of football but there was just too much going on!

I'm pretty sure Real and Barca still have the most fans in the world yeah. It's obvious they would be on different days. Then with Atletico having to play home not the same day as Madrid there is only one match left. They also keep the German teams apart this way so it's probably a win everywhere but England.

Yeah, that City v Madrid game was some good shit. Foden's been just killing it lately.

Barca PSG was another top match. I put Barca above PSG in my power ranking. Feel like no one else did. That looks pretty good now huh!

Quite awesome seeing a 17-year old centre-back casually starting in a CL QF for Barcelona. Feels like something you'd read about from 50 years ago.

Subs worked. Pedri made assist of the round a moment after coming on. Christensen scored with his first touch of the game after coming on. Christensen doing well always makes me happy obviously, but he was already 1 of like 3 safe starters for Denmark. Need more to do good lol.

Dortmund can get a result in Germany, but my god did their defense self destruct yesterday. Without the insane errors, they didn't give much else away.

I think all the matches can flip and it wouldn't surprise me.

I think City will grind Madrid out at the Etihad. I definitely don't expect another high scoring game.

You never know with Madrid I feel. And if they do move on they're automatically favorites imo.

Whoever wins that tie is favorites, yeah.

And they're mega favorites against whoever moves on from the Bayern/Arsenal tie. Which I think will probably be Bayern. This whole CL campaign has been kind of a learning curve for our side and I don't think we've exactly figured out how to do it yet. We showed insane levels of naivete on Tuesday and I think it'll be really hard to muster the focus level needed to beat them in Munich.

Liverpool with some rotation today. Glad to see Villa are full strength for their game against Lille. Ollie Watkins is having such a good season.

Been a lot of debate about the away goals rule lately and how it's affected the approaches to these European ties. I lean toward liking the away goals rule better. Obviously City and Bayern would love to have it back after the other day, so would Barca.

What do you guys think?

I think it's overall for the better, although it had its advantages. We had some amazing ties this week that wouldn't have happened if it was still in place because the home teams would play much more defensively most likely, which kinda ruins the point of why it was introduced.

Away goals is an interesting rule but I'm glad it went away.

One easy point, it makes it more difficult for a casual fan to understand what's going on. "Oh it's 3-3!" "Well yes, but since Team A scored 2 away goals they're actually winning."

Liverpool collapsed entirely. They aren't reversing that away from home.

West Ham also lost away to Bayer Leverkusen 2-0. Tottenham and Aston Villa may actually need to fight for 4th in order to secure Champions League next season.

Arsenal/Bayern will be pretty crucial for that I think, Germany is the direct opponent.

In particular if Madrid should beat City too. Spain is a bit below, but I don't know if they can challenge should they get all three teams through, CL is usually worth more.

Aston Villa got the only English victory, but it's not comfortable enough.

Just kind of in total shock at what happened with Liverpool. I do think they're clearly worse than us and City and have ridden their luck at times this year but there's still massive quality there. And to play like that in the 1st leg of a European quarterfinal is... pretty shocking to say the least.

They haven't lost on Anfield since Madrid in CL last year. That makes this even crazier.

Just watched the third goal again. The way Szobolzai gives it away and then starts jogging back before the ball goes into their box is CRIMINAL. If Klopp had more options, that would be curtains for that guy for me. Holy shit.

I've never been a fan of that rule, I like to keep it simple - a goal is a goal, shouldn't matter if you scored away or at home. Although games being decided by penalties is....booh hooh
