It's not really what the topic is asking, but the actor Emil Jannings was so successful in the silent film era that he won the first ever Oscar for Best Actor. Then talkies were invented and his career took a nosedive because his German accent was difficult to understand. He ended up moving back to Germany and starring in Nazi propaganda films.

Samus spoke quite extensively in Fusion, albeit in internal monologues, and no one had a problem with that.

It's not the same protagonist, but Subnautica: Below Zero chose to have a speaking protagonist in lieu of the first game's silent one and basically everyone agrees that this was a bad idea.

I liked the character fine, but having someone constantly commenting on things with a wry sense of humor was just one of many contributing factors that led to BZ's atmosphere absolutely paling in comparison to Subnautica's.

Ryu Hayabusa, there's a cutscene in NG2 where Volf (one of the bosses) is just rambling on and gloating while Ryu is remaining mostly silent and stoic and it would work so well if he was actually a silent character. I'm not up to speed with what they did to him in NG3 but I heard it was a misfire.

That's because Subnautica unintentionally ended up being a horror game. The developers made it a point to lighten the atmosphere in Below Zero. And my Thalassophobia appreciated it lol

I'm going to disagree on it being unintentional. There's a point where your PDA literally describes a biome as having 7 of the 9 preconditions for stimulating terror in humans. Maybe they didn't expect to do it so well, but they definitely meant to do it.

Ryu had dialogue in the Nintendo and Sega (Master System) games.

Yes. It said "because i wanted to be with you" to Ash when he asked why Pikachu refused to get in to the PokeBall when they're under barrage of Pokemon attacks. But then it forced to get in anyway.
Not that bad, but I pretend it never happened.

Pikachu speaking was a cinematic metaphor or whatever the terminology would be. But audiences took it literally

In Chrono Cross, Crono speaks, is a ghost, blames our hero for everything going wrong in the world, and then gives a lame-ass exposition dump including a casual 'the villain was your father all along' reveal just before the final battle.

I prefer the silent version.

I know the Pink Panther talked, but I was not expecting that in the original post.

I just think this was interesting and ummm that's it for now.

Nah bro, Meowth taught himself to speak and walk like a human to impress a female Meowth and even though she rejected him for being more human than pokemon at that point in her eyes, I haven't seen any other pokemon literally learn human speech. Dude's special and his only mistake was joining Team Rocket instead of doing good with that ability.

Edit: Except Mewtwo, I guess, however he was literally created in a lab as a clone, so he doesn't count as a real pokemon anyways.

They're not their real ghost.
Like Lenna's dad said, they're just echoes from the people in the Dead Sea when it perished. It just took that form but not the real ghost of chrono and co.
They are looking like children while Chrono and the others are already teenagers

Chrono and Marle are implied to be still alive in Lucca's letter, time traveling to undo the bad timeline.

I too watched that movie quite a bit as a kid, can even remember some of the song lyrics to this day. In a bubble it isn't half-bad - the two villains and their dog were the best part of the movie (not surprising that Tony Jay's evil butler is the only thing anyone remembers about the movie via the 'we've got to have money' meme).

I still remember the songs lyrics to this day. I had such fond memories of it until I rewatched it with my nephews years ago and it absolutely did not age well lol. With that said almost all the villains in that movie was pretty damn memorable like the fat dog with the skateboard, the creepy pedo looking doctor, and the 2 villains like you mentioned. It's a guilty pleasure movie and it hold dear to my heart because it's a movie that got me through the rough times of my childhood that I will absolutely admit is just a bias on my end.

Isaac being better because he speaks is particularly evident in the Dead Space remake, where instead of being ordered to go and fix everything and just never saying anything or having any motive of his own, he's the one who usually comes up with the solutions and fixes. Which makes sense given that he's the engineer. Never made sense in the OG that Kendra and Hammond are directing the engineer to go do engineer things.
