I don't like rice or beef, so this doesn't sound good to me. But others probably will like it.

According to the team at Yonsei University in South Korea, it has 8% more protein and 7% more fat.

This results in almost nothing. For every cup of rice you're eating it's around a quarter gram of protein. We need much meatier rice than that

It's not about providing your protein, it's supplementing it.

Funny thing about tech. It can be developed to have production yields beyond it's initial conception.

He's talking about the meat rice yield. If normal rice is 4.3g the meat rice is 4.6

it's so crazy how you people see news like this and can't extrapolate or infer what could become of processes like these.

Like you think this is the end game? You can't imagine how this kind of thing could be turned toward something more impactful? How sure are you of your own intelligence? lmao

Imagine obtaining all the nutrients we need from cell-cultured protein rice.

The rice was first coated in fish gelatine to help the beef cells latch on, and the grains were left in a petri dish to culture for up to 11 days.
The researchers say the food may serve as "relief for famine, military ration, or even space food" in the future.

That's the part that matters.

If they can create affordable "food" in lab that can be transported and distributed to places that truly need it, I don't know how anyone can see this as a bad thing.

People will complain that it's dehumanizing poor people to feed them lab grown pseudo-food, ignoring the fact that these people would probably much rather eat this than starve to death.

There is a 0% chance that they will ever be able to create lab grown meat rice that is cheaper than just regular meat and rice

I'm not gonna pretend I know how the science works, hypothetically they might be able to grow some mcnugget type things in the future. What they have currently is nowhere close though. Youre pretty much just as good just eating regular rice
