As a man Id 100% love being a stay at home dad and not having a day job. Fuck yes. I LOVE cooking and being at home. I have taken care of the house my whole life. Dusting, vacuuming, dishes, laundry, cooking, cleaning the bathroom and cleaning the kitchen all done at least weekly.

Now I get to quit work and stay home? Id be ecstatic. I would thrive at being a home maker.

lmao fuck working
this

i have no drive, no credentials, no marketable skills. i would not be able to be an earner without working 2 full time jobs at minimum

whereas my partner makes quite frankly a staggering amount. of course i would be okay with child rearing and homemaking

however, i would never want a kid

In the "olden days" this question would likely have a different response. But these days plenty of men already do those things (along with a partner or not) even when having a job. I'd absolutely be down for ditching that shit while doing things I am already doing anyways.
Hell if you're any way on top of things it wouldn't amount to more than 3 hours a day of actual work which is where the meme of housewives sitting around drinking originated from.

I tried it for a while. Mostly out of necessity. It feels weird. Might just be a societal reason. I love taking care of my kids. But I always feel this societal pressure, not to mention the need for more money. My wife makes a very good salary, but still feel like it's not enough.

Nothing wrong with being a House Hubby, she would just need to make a lot to justify me not working due to modern standards.

Sure, though it probably depends on how much my partner makes. I make a decent enough salary that it definitely wouldn't be an instant "my pay doesn't even cover daycare"-type situation, but if my partner was making considerably more than me to the point that my working wasn't meaningfully contributing, then absolutely. I'm ambivalent on having kids, but if it happened I think I'd find focusing on that more fulfilling than work.

i still have stress from being a stay at home parent and I have severe anxiety. My other would get a lot of breaks as I was a seasonal laborer

If you are talking about the "study" I think you are, they mention those dad's were more likely involuntarily unemployed than choosing to stay home. Also, they included a lot of data from the 80s, when stay at home dad's were not as common and looked down upon a lot more than they are now.

I started looking all this shit up before I chose to stay home. I'm not gonna lie, I was worried I'd get a lot of shit from my friends and family about not being the "man" of the house.

Surprisingly, everybody was super supportive and understanding. And it's never been an issue for my wife and I.

Maybe do a small late night job that won't conflict too much with the household if I want to make some sort of cash

My feelings about it change as my kid's age and abilities change.

For example, when I went back to work from parental leave, my kid was 6 months old and I wanted nothing more than to be with him all day.

Now that he is a year old and super mobile, I realize how exhausting it is to take care of him for all of a single day, much less all day every day. I know I would burn out. But as he gets a little older still and I can interact with him differently I bet this swings back around again.

Fucking yes.

Having a job and making money isn't my goal in life or my path to self-fullfillment or whatever.

It's an means to an end.

If you give me an scenario where you say "okay, you don't have to work anymore, but..." the "but" has to be pretty bad to make me say "no".

Commuting sucks ass
Working sucks ass

Being away from home for 10 hours a day sucks fucking dick. The worst day of parenting would absolutely still be better than the worst day at work.

It'd definitely be tough. Especially with a younger child. My daughter drives me crazy sometimes lol. She's 3 now and extremely curious and playful. She made my partner lose her mind with wanting to play Barbies literally the entire day. And she wants to play with them everyday and gets sad if you don't play with her. Hard to have a moment to yourself. I had to take off work to stay home with her all day tomorrow since she doesn't have school. Thought it'd be a lot easier to sneak a little gaming in since I have a Steam Deck now, but the last time I stayed home with her, I didn't even get to touch my Steam Deck all day until my partner came home since she didn't take a nap and wanted my attention the entire time lol.

Only if she made more than enough to support everyone on her income alone.

Though I'd still start my own projects now that I'd have more time (probably) to work on them when I'm not tending to the kid(s).

Well lemme rephrase that. We talked about her being a stay at home wife once and she was not open to it. If a baby was involved it may be different
