I understand that Eminem had fans from different genders and backgrounds. But it seemed like he had a special appeal to many (not all) young white men. He spoke to them in a way that no one else had before. And it was not just because he was a white rapper. Marky Mark did not have the same impact. People liked Jump Around, but they did not emulate House of Pain. (By the way, Kris Krosss Jump is better, just saying). Jokes aside, he took the world by storm and had them hooked. I dont get what he was saying in his songs that attracted so many people. How did talking about a terrible mom and a toxic girlfriend that you want to harm resonate with people..so Much.

And again many different groups liked him. But to some people it was like he was god.

For the same reason nu metal and the WWF exploded: edgy and white had a large demographic.

He was punching up against conservative cultural elements like politicians and his own mom but not on a way that alienated certain demographics by going for radical politics. However he did have homophobic lyrics back in a

Nowadays with greater sensitivity towards LGBT and ethnic minorities all the "edgy" musicians like Tom MacDonald just go for the culture wars nonsense, punching down and crying about how oppressed they are for having to respect people and use the correct pronouns.

I don't think he had anything particularly poignant to say that often. He's like the South Park of rappers. He did it purely for the reactions he could get outta people.

The late 90s/early 2000s weren't the best time for rock and rap. But were definitely the last great time for pop and RnB. That's just my opinion though.
