Youve come to a wedding. Youve potentially travelled a very long way (about 6000 miles). The wedding itself is really nice and you really enjoy the trip, however, while there you learn that the bride and groom actually got legally married a year or two beforehand without any ceremony, and delayed the ceremony in order to make it more viable for certain people to be able to come.

What would your thoughts be?

Not where I come from, youre not. You do all the paperwork on the day normally.

However, where I live now, youre normally legally married before the day but only for a few days at most.

it happened to me tbh
i got legally married in december 2013 because we wanted to file taxes as a married couple (we were planning on having the wedding later the next year anyways, so we figured why not)

wife had a health crisis, wedding got delayed. since my wife wasnt working because of her health, my mom had to cosign on my mortgage with me. had to tell her then because it would have been perjury to say i wasnt married to the title office.

she was pissed lol

I wouldn't go to the other side of the planet for a wedding unless someone else was paying for the ticket. In that case I wouldn't care about the scenario since I got a free trip.

Not at all, it's still their wedding day, their official status beforehand doesn't matter. Some people get married and have a ceremony a year or two later when it's more feasible.

We got married at the courthouse six days before our two religious ceremonies and reception (so we were arguably married three times). Nobody cared, and everybody had fun at the reception. The only impact was that had it been over a week, The New York Times would have only mentioned the civil ceremony in their announcement. Apparently, they have a week cut-off for that.

The wedding ceremony is just fluff. It doesn't actually mean anything. All that officially matters is the paperwork. You can do paperwork and no ceremony and still be legally married, but if you have a ceremony but no paperwork it was all worthless because the ceremony doesn't mean shit.

It's like a birthday party. Even if you don't have any party at all you still aged a year. Your birthday can be on Tuesday but your party on Friday, but you still aged a year on Tuesday. The party means nothing.

Honestly I wouldn't go. But if for some reason I did end up going to a wedding then I wouldn't care if there was a delay between the marriage and celebration. Especially if there were good reasons for the delay.

My wife and I got married two years before our actual wedding. My wife needed insurance so we got government married in 2017 then just did a destination wedding in Vegas (where we live but we knew family would come to Vegas). We only told a few people and ended up just doing the reception. No bullshit ceremony or vows just a party.

Like nothing..at all.

The wedding in this case is the public showing of their love. Cementing what they had on paper. Heck as I type it , it gets sweeter.

I've been to a couple weddings, but they aren't something that really appeal to me. So the further away it was the less I'd go. My boyfriend and I aren't planning to get married even though we've been together for 10 years so it's not a thing that matters to us lol.

My previous partner and I lived together for 11 years and never had any intention of getting married. It makes a lot more sense to in this instance as Im an immigrant, so being married to a Vietnamese national allows me certain privileges.
