they fucked themselves imo. instead of calling it early access they should have just said it was done. sure it's a bit lacking but with the massive payday they just got, they could have taken that huge pool of money and dedicated it 100% to palworld 2, which would then be a complete game with fleshed out towns, a complete story, voice acting, improved battling, the works.

to be clear they're still in a pretty good spot, it's just now they're going to be expected to keep polishing and upgrading and adding content to pals 1 when it would serve them better to just start making the next game at this point.

That's a terrible idea though. Yes it's fun for what we have, but half of the reason that people are okay with it, is because it's early access.

There's no story to speak of, no endgame at all, hardly any NPCs, balancing issues that need to be sorted out, quite a few bugs.

If they called this a complete game, people would have refunded it before hitting 2 hours

They do not say X pal was based on Y Pokemon if that's what you're looking for but they made it clear Pokemon was the main frame of reference for the game. Without the Pokemon gimmick this game would have just been Craftopia 2.

Okay maybe that part was taking it too far. But it being in early access definitely helped make certain things more forgivable.

And yes, I've played Grounded. It's a very different game now than it was when it first released in early access.

Let's just all agree that we wish the best for Palworld and hope it gets regular updates and in a couple of years has grown into its own thriving game with unique mechanics and systems that looks less and less like "pokemon with guns" and more like how Digimon grew into its own unique property. I don't think there's anything controversial about ending this whole debate with hope for the future.

And this post right here is where you started to insert words and opinions into my mouth. Because at the end of the day my problem with Palworld is less it too inspiration from Pokmon but that its too close for comfort and basically made its identity and constant comparisons as Pokmon with Guns

And while yes the developers never stated that was the case here if you pause some common sense of the situation its clear they wanted to to stick as they arent correcting it or stomping out the comparisons on social media as far as anyone can tell. Because in the end the game sold well enough and thats all that matters to them.

Pokemon only saving grace in the video game sphere are its designs nowadays, because man the games suck ass. It was only a matter of time before some legally distinct mons made it way to a release in some game. Had pokemon actually been good and game freak didnt sit on their ass with an open world pokemon concept, palworld would have been laughed at as a cheap knock off, instead of much needed innovation.

But thats part of the comparison problem here is that the games dont relate to each other outside art assets for creature designs. Because its not even like there arent already Monster collecting games to compete with Pokmon directly (or as directly to the games anyhow as merchandise is something not going to be done)

Which again is his own character as has some differences between his source.

Like palworld is compared to pokemon because of how blatant the monster designs are. We got games like monster sanctuary, tem tem, shin megami tensei, the music beat monster game, and plenty more with no designs even close to pokemon. It clear they just been copying.

While alot of games do take design elements to each other, which why so many triple A games feel samey, they atleast do more to put a spin on it, rather than it being legally distinct. Like these guys aren't even creative enough to make new UI elements.

When the dark souls series took ideas from berserk, it had it own clear vision with the ideas, and had a spin on it. Same with bloodborne with the lovecraftian inspirations.

This happens frequently, just it never done this lazily unless the game a cheap asset flip. That the point of contention and merit discussion, hence the discussion about it is huge. If you disagree, feel free to not respond.
