Why would it be a scam? It's $30 for a game that makes it clear that it's in Early Access. And they've already released 4 patches to fix a ton of bugs. So clearly they didn't just release it and then run off with the money

While I wouldnt call it a scam per say it is more a misleading game at most because at the end of the day it is designed with Pokmon in mind with how the creature designs look and you add the guns to the mix and let the Pokmon with Guns narrative go along with it and yeah you can see the level of dishonesty from the developers.

In terms of the design of what the game is and the screen shots presented its again obvious what they were drawing in on with the look of the game. Its the same for Craftopia and other games they are working on. Its that fine line between being a copy and being a parody at work and if they didnt use Pokmon like design Palworld wouldnt nearly sold as much as it did.

I have gotten every single achievement and completely filled out the paldeck.

Every single thing shown off by the devs in a trailer or screenshot is in the game exactly as it appears in the promotional material, except for the camera angles for obvious reasons.

Not every game is going to have CS:GO numbers. Some games are meant to be played once and be done while others thrive off of being replayable. Palworld is an open access game priced at $30's. Which means only more things can be added to the game. The main thing that is going to determine if they can keep the playerbase up or not is if the updates they do in the game can add to the gameplay loop or if they make a decision that legimitadely pisses off the fanbase.

Whatever it is, even if they one and done with the game, the devs already made a shit ton of money and that in of itself is basically a W for them already.

Pokemon with guns was something that was spread by people on social media. How does a social media meme make the devs dishonest?

The trailers for the game have always shown bits of the resource gathering mechanics and the Steam page shows that part of it pretty clearly as well

Because as far as its been shown there hasnt been any attempts by the developers to claim that wasnt the intention? I mean any creators would probably already come forward and tell people that wasnt what the game was design to be like.

What the developers should have done is not make designs that look like Pokmon. And the same goes for making a game that is supposed to try and look like BotW, Hollow Knight, or Among Us.

The developer hasn't been dishonest in the least, if anything they're too honest. They've gone on record stating they'll never make an original concept again lol. They know they're "borrowing" ideas and give no fucks.

Seems more like you are injecting words into my mouth there. Has nothing to do with me hating the designs but rather hating the fact that all it really needs to sell a game is to mimic another just enough that you cant get into legal trouble and then you dont say anything to try and separate what people are saying about your games? Palworld selling based on memes isnt a good thing by itself, regardless if you like it or not, it sets up a precedent that says its ok to copy things here and there as long as you dont get into legal trouble.

Clones exist but the problem isnt that they exist but rather or not the sell. In a lot of cases too a clone doesnt really outpace the games they are copying. Thats why a lot of the longest running series are still long running and why a lot of clones fade into more obscurity.

With something like Palworld while yes it too is going to fade into obscurity the amount of sales it has made is going to just be a lesson to a lot of developers looking to cash in on being blatant copies of more popular games which isnt good for the industry because it encourages lazy art designs and is definitely not good for other indie developers because now their games are at risk of losing more steam because its not trying to capture audiences by being blatant copies.

Okay but like, hear me out... people bought and played palworld because it's fun and the pals look cute.

If it was bad, people wouldn't have fallen in love with it. Yes, it's inspired by Pokemon and has similarities to it. No, that's not a bad thing.

Even when pokemon was new, other things similar to it were huge and it was a highly competitive space. The lack of real competition in recent years is a big part of why pokemon games have been mediocre for the past decade or more.

While that is true my problem isnt with that but the fact that Palworld is blatant about it. Because while interpretation is key here there is also the fact that plenty of developers can come up with more unique takes on existing games and genres that the surface level of things is more or less just people assuming one thing but also seeing it as something different.

Palworld and its developers dont really do that to give them any benefit of the doubt here.

And thats fine if you e joy it but lets be real as that genre can be getting more traction lets not forget that Enshrouded in comparison really didnt sell more because of the genre itself. Last I have seen it sold around a million copies so basically it got bodied by Palworld which is sad. Hell I need to go back to playing more of that one.
