He and I once got into a long debate about how you should ALWAYS battle-rez bad players who die during a World of Warcraft boss fight, because it's "your job as a healer to battle rez anybody who dies," even if rezzing that player would lead to a higher chance of wiping due to punishing mechanics.

the idea where you punish players for making mistakes by withholding heals doesn't help anyone. they know they fucked up.

i was a healer main before i played tank, so it's not like i'm speaking from a position that doesn't know. the best thing you can do is get players up immediately, because you're not operating under the assumption that anyone else will die.

it's like saving swiftcast for raise in ffxiv. am i playing to fail? fuck no, that swftcast is going on cd. nobody is hitting the ground.

Its countercultural for sure so it would raise some eyebrows in certain settings.

It's not punishing the player who made the mistake. Battle rezzes are limited. If it's an easy fight then it will be over soon anyway, and if it's a tough fight you might need the B-rez for someone more capable. Dying is the "punishment" for making a mistake. A B-rez is a mitigation mechanic to be used in limited quanities, so they should be saved for when it actually raises your odds of beating a boss.

I've played with tons of bad players. They learn over time, but being B-rezzed in a tough fight just so they can do bottom DPS and "learn" by dying a second time isn't the way to help them. If they don't want to sit on the floor, they should stop failing mechanics. If you B-rez them immediately, they don't feel the consequences of their mistake.

Anyway, that's not what this topic is about.

nah. as a healer, you bring things back to equilibrium as quickly and as friction-free as possible. you make mistakes vanish. you pull people, kicking and screaming, across the finish line. if you're any good, i mean.

i'll entertain that. if it raises your chances to beat the boss on that specific pull, sure, but mmo fights are rarely one-and-done, especially in prog. you need to bring your entire team up to capable. leaving them on the ground when they absolutely need the practice isn't doing that. you need to be thinking four or five pulls ahead.

Anybody can die in a hard fight. Shit happens. If someone dies often and does low DPS whenever they're alive, they're less-capable. Hence why we're not going to use a b-rez on that player when someone who contributes more consistently might need it later.

In my philosophy, we can usually down a boss without too much trouble if we're at 80%+ capacity throughout the fight. In a 10-man raid, you might think each player is 10% capacity, but in actuality, if you're doing low DPS and you tend to fail avoidable mechanics, you might only end up being ~3% of the total capacity.

Hence, I'm not going to use a B-rez when we're at 97% capacity.

That's not really a good way to conserve resources. Also, most of my raiding experience comes from a time when B-rezzes were only available to druids and didn't reset their cooldown every time we wiped.

before i switched to tank i was sort of a monster at healing, so, no, that one has some personal investment for me. i ran into prima donna healers all the time who i ran laps around.

Bruh. Sometimes players are just bad. It's not that serious. They'll get better over time if they keep at it. I'm not saying "kick them from the group," just "maybe don't waste a valuable resource to keep them alive if they keep dying due to simple mistakes"
