Im not advocating for a one country no state solution, but the fast that the bicameral legislature can be manipulated to this degree by the South over 150 years after the Civil War is beyond stupid. Replace the bicameral legislature with a parliamentary system which then allows for multiple parties that must form coalitions if they don't get a clear majority. But short of a complete collapse and then rebuilding of the entire apparatus of governance that will never happen. The problem with the migration idea is that the only places worth living in the state are Saint Louis or KC. And they've both been gerrymandered to have the least amount of representation possible. Most of the space between the larger towns and cities is filled with mostly abandoned or dying towns. College towns like Cape Girardeau, Rolla, and Springfield rely on the business that the colleges bring, but do very little to support the colleges and bitching about liberal views and attitudes of the students. I've lived in Saint Louis my whole life. I'd be more than happy to have the city and county join Illinois and give them the massive amount of tax dollars we generate.
