The IX remake is almost certainly happening

Maybe FFV gets the remake treatment too

it IS the worst aspect of the game though. at the very least they should fix the balancing of how EXP was handed out so that Squall isn't at Level 99 since gunblade is broken

VI needs a remake just so we can have a proper version of the opera scene.

I mean he goes out of his way to say it's his personal stance not the company stance and that they had to have discussions when making Dissidia on how hard they wanted to lean into it (where they at least nodded to it by having Ultimecia use all of Rinoa's weapons).

And that Nomura adds shit in all the time.

Kuja is no Sephiroth, and isnt going to be able to throw off the time ghosts from keeping the story intact.

I expect the IX remake will be a straightforward one, where they might add new scenes, new abilities, etc. But the story will stay the same.

The worst part about FF9's battle system is that animations don't pause the ATB, that's very easy to fix.

Just change two things with IX's battle system:

Get rid of the long animations for everything
Let you store up Trances to use when you want instead of automatically activating them

And you've basically fixed the game

No, 8 is absolutely the game that could benefit the most from a remake imo! But I don't see it happening. I think VII is a unique case and they won't do another full set of remakes like that.

Naw I want a LAVISH, FULL PRODUCTION VALUE FFT Remake. There's nothing else like it in that field.

Also the game does need an overhaul that WotL didn't provide (completely ignoring my scrooples with the script), and needs it far more than 8 or 9 do. The best and honestly only way to unlock high end jobs and a bunch of abilities in a single playthrough without dozens and dozens of hours of random battle grinding is to have 4 naked dudes punch another naked dude in a cross formation for hours while a 6th dude heals and petrifies the last enemy repeatedly. This is not OK!

8 remake doesnt seem like it wouldve been more work than a 7 remake so that just feels silly to me. 8 is the remake I wanted most before they even started remakes.

FF8 came out at a weird time when the internet was still getting big. I think the junction system, isn't so bad for a first timer who tries to figure out things for themselves, but anyone going online to figure out strategies can pretty easily break the game. (and to be fair, some can break the game without going online, but you need to have a decent grasp of the system to do this)

Previous FFs have some pretty broken stuff that was balanced by how hard it was to figure out how to get (like FFVI's Ultima and FFVII's Knights of the Round). However, in the internet age, it's easier to figure out everything so these "balances" don't work the same way. (and also FF8 is worse than those two I mentioned, since you get those 2 late in the game, while 8 can be broken pretty early on)

That feels like an overcorrection from how easy it was to break 7 and 8 with their multihit attacks.

I feel like they could do straight remakes just fine. IX is rumored to be getting one. X might as well. It would be awesome to get a 2DHD remake of VI with voice acting. We don't need giant-ass AAA remakes of every game.

That being said, if they want to make a AAA remake of VI, I'm not opposed to it whatsoever, I'd be hyped as hell, but it honestly doesn't need it.

IX made up for it by having relatively low HP caps for their bosses. Ozma only has 55,000 HP for instance.

But yeah, IX could open it up if they wanted.

It wasn't a problem in vanilla FFT when you could just, you know, easily cheat and get infinite JP for most jobs just by holding down a button and messing with the DPAD.

It was part of the Nvidia leak all those years ago, together with the Chrono Cross Remaster and a bunch of other stuff. It's not clear whether it's a remaster or a remake.

Nah it absolutely needs a 2-parter remake imo, the only ones I'd want more than that are Chrono Trigger and... sigh... Xenosaga trilogy...

I get what they're saying about FFVIII and especially FFVI being a lot of work. VI in particular seems ideal for a two-part game between WoB and WoR.

Well, probably for the best that SQENIX doesn't fuck up FFVI with a remake like most everything else they've tried in the past.....I dunno, 10 years.

I'd love them to redo 8 with a less broken battle system. Just don't touch 9 as that is probably the worst one i've played.

I dunno FF8 has basically 1 full disc more content than 7. The final disc in both games really didn't have much on it.

8 feels to me like a much smaller game than 7. the extra disc has to be mostly due to the FMV's and ridiculously long summon animations

I've always felt like content wise that FF7's disc 1 might as well have been 2 discs.

Cannot disagree more.

I'd say VII and VIII are relatively similar in length, but they both (and VI) have really big worlds, which is why I think Kitase is saying remaking those would be a challenge.

You couldn't skimp on the production values either for VIII after how big they were for the original.

I feel like VIII was more of a small world with a few really big areas (Balamb Garden, Deling City, Esthar) than a really big world. It kinda shares the same issue as IX where there's only a few really big important places and everywhere else is fairly sparsely populated.

I loved finding fun ways to become overpowered early.

Who doesn't love 5+ hours of card battling in Balamb before you even go on the SeeD Exam? I consider it an integral part of most playthroughs :D

Gotta get those 20x elnoyle cards if you want the disc 1 lionheart, and gotta be ready to card mod into 300x tornado and water spells as well as various elemental-agas as soon as you have the tech.

Urge to restart FF8 is rising.

It's a fun system imo though it was a good decision not to keep using it.

Nah, FFVIII has a pretty big world, even if it's spread out (which is also part of why a remake would be a challenge). FFIX has one big continent and three other continents with barely anything on them. They sacrificed having a bunch of small towns for having four or five huge cities and not much else, which is probably why remaking that game is less of a challenge.
