wtf is this shit

I dunno. Normally I side with critics in obviously divisive stuff like this because its often manchildren review bombing woke stuffbut even I cant deny this season has been a narrative mess thus far. Havent watched episode 4 yet but, as if episode 3, I feel like weve gone nowhere and the season is halfway done at only 6 episodes total.

Episode 4 is where things took a turn to irredeemable, imo

bc I have no strong connection to the first season, nor did I think the other seasons were memorably bad

True detective season 1 set the bar way to high

I guess the War Mode boys were right about this show.

The first episode was really good and then it just got worse. Nothing is happening. Its the same plot points over and over. Like generic tropes. Main character with rebellious teen. Other with bad sister. Dude is working too much, dude has a mail order bride. Same drama each episode.

They should have not included TD in it

It's the second beast season imo.

1 > 4 > 2 = 3

I like the supernatural stuff.

I feel the same way. I actually really liked the first two episodes but then it just stalled in generic tropes. I don't see how it can redeem itself in two episodes.

it also feels like the story can go in one of two obvious ways which is the supernatural stuff is all real or its some kind of water contaminant giving everyone hallucinations. The latter option would require some massive suspension of disbelief given what theyve shown so far and if its the former option, theyve leaned on it way too heavily these past couple episodes

This. The people paying attention threw up warning flags from the very first trailer when it was revealed the original creator was only nominally involved. It was always just a cheap attempt to use brand recognition to sell a show that wasn't going to do well on its own.

Pretty sure the original creator of True Detective, Nic Pizzolatto, has basically nothing to do with the show? And the new showrunner hasn't made anything of note? Not sure why people expected this to be good

It has a 93% on rotten tomatoes after 159 reviews, thats better than season 1

I find season 1 hard to watch now. And when I do I find myself sympathising with everyman Marty and being irritated by edgy Cohle.

Season 2 is criminally underrated. It's a solid murder mystery with terrific performances from all the leads, especially Farrell and Vaughan.

Season 3 had its charms, and I liked the ending.

I've only seen the first two episodes of Season 4, and I'm disappointed. The characters are flat and stereotypical and the plot hasn't grabbed me, despite the intriguing set up.

I felt like ep. 4 was trolling me, everyone just doing the absolute dumbest shit imaginable. This season is a complete mess.
I'll be lol'ing at how they decide to explain all the "supernatural" stuff away, (it's the water!).

I agree it sucks. Finishing ep 4 and most of the story has been focused on the characters and the families which really isnt very interesting and quite boring actually. 4 episodes in and the story has gone nowhere so I second wtf is this shit.

It started off strong, to be fair.

But like Doom Art's dad after a particularly heavy sesh, it's proceeding to well and truly shit itself.

The end of ep 4 was infuriating. You usually close with a revelation or hints of whats to come, but wtf was that? Feels like bad x files episodes. And AGAIN...why so much focus on secondary characters like Priors dad and Evangelines sister. The shows been good at character developing, but thats mostly what its done. Its taken too long to go anywhere and 2 more episodes wont save it, cause theres no interest in the mistery. We dont even have possible perpetrators, but instead some super natural BS. The shows been hinting at some creepy girl

For me the dumbest part of the episode was when rookie Prior is in bed with his wife and just blurts out you didnt even want to have a kid with me! I was so confused like where did this even come from?

not trying to defend the season or anything b/c its very mediocre. but in this case, that tension has been building between them all season. she's been unhappy with how tight of a leash he's on and that he's never around for their child. that's probably a thought he's had for a while. but i have absolutely no idea how any of that is relevant to the main story.

No I get that but for him to put of nowhere blow up about not even wanting the child wasnt something that was built to at all imo

just felt like a The Room-esque non-sequitur

I'm late to the party and I should see the season 1 finale tonight. Wow, what a show. We haven't had Max that long so I have a lot of good shows to watch.

I'm a little disappointed that the next few seasons are so universally panned.

I usually feel the same. And honestly I was pretty hooked after the 1st episode. But holy hell it's gone down hill fast and while going absolutely nowhere.

And some of the dialogue and writing is atrocious.

This too... Like wtf? I kept thinking isn't Prior the one that didn't want the kid? He's the one that has no interest in being home with his family. Lol
