But it's ok for you to come in here trolling about American food safety while defending literally mad cow disease island, and troll about Americans not leaving the country or about British food being available and desired "all over the world," then you get upset when people point out basic facts to you.

In that same vain, why is it ok for Americans to keep making these troll topics with the mods doing fuck all? If it was Brits making these topics about shitting on American food they would get modded by now.

Also, a line outside a new shop/restaurant means nothing. The first McDonald's in Moscow had a long line, lol..

Though the best fish and chips I've ever had was from an Irish pub. Heck some of the best food I've ever had was from Irish pubs. I've had some killer chicken quesadillas from one and a burger.

That's a key fact. In the UK, you can go into almost any pub in the country (there are thousands of them), and the chances are you'll find a very large menu full of fresh food cooked from scratch on the premises.

That's because the Soviets wanted to taste freedom.

And I know, Europeans hate American cuisine. Until they visit the US, and then they invariably stuff themselves on basically everything we have and every regional variety of where they are visiting like their lives depend on it.

I've never been to England, but based on what I've seen of their food and what I've eaten in the US I feel like American restaurants that feature UK fare do those dishes better than how you'd get them in the UK. I'm sure there are exceptions, but yeah.

No need to come at me all snooty. Don't get me wrong and assume I'm taking some idiot nationalist stance - I'd love to visit and go to all kinds of restaurants. Eating while traveling is the best. If I got proven wrong that'd be awesome.

But for me it's the same type of idea as Philly cheese steaks. I bet there's some place in Wisconsin or something that does a Philly style cheese steak that's just as good or better than one you'd get in Philly. The conceit of location is way overblown.

Speaking of conceit and being snooty: assuming your defensiveness means you're from the UK, are you one of those folks that sees sausage gravy and goes "that's not gravy! Gravy's brown!"?

Youre backpedaling now. Before it was that you thought the US did UK food better than the UK. Now youre saying that some places other than the UK might possibly do it better than the average place in the UK. Those are very different claims.

I dont live in the UK, though I have done. I also travel extensively and used to be a professional chef.

Ive no issue with other kinds of gravy. I wasnt brought up on bisto. However, as somebody else has already pointed out, biscuits and gravy dont exactly look appealing. Ive only ever tried them twice, and was thoroughly disappointed both times, so I doubt there will ever be a third.

I don't know what this is supposed to mean.

Europeans NEVER come to the USA for the food. And once you've travelled 10,000 miles, what are you gonna do, go on hunger strike?!

Like, when people go to Italy or Switzerland or China, it's conceivable that one of the main reasons they go is for the food. But nobody ever said "I wanna go to America because I wanna eat burgers for every meal for 14 days straight".

Notice also, I didn't say I hated American food - I've eaten in over 25 states, including some restaurants that claimed to be best-in-state. Some of it was ok. But half of it is shit. And nearly all of it is unhealthy.

ai123 posted...

The thing is America is so big and there's so many people that cook that yes lots of it is bad but that's part of what makes it good. America's is a giant melting pot of culture of people from all over the world. New food is literally being created here. And the options for good food are limitless. Any place that claims to have the best food is bullshitting you. You got to check reviews or ask the locals their favorite places.

Yeah there's a lot of stuff I don't like but it also depends on usage. I will eat beans in some dishes such as beans in chili but just plain old beans on their own, no. And beans on toast just sounds revolting, the whole point of toast is the crunch, you're gonna get that toast soggy with the beans and ruin it.

I sense my UK brethren are gonna be up in arms about this but frankly I agree.

The issue isn't that good food doesn't exist in the UK. Of course it does. And good food culture exists too of course, if you look for it.

The issue is that - historically and in a general culture sense -brits are ANTI food culture. Like we are collectively embarrassed about good food.

We are probably the only country in the world where you take something nice and homemade into the office and someone calls you a tosser for it. Like la di da, look at Mr fancy pants over here with his sourdough bread.

Yeah, people really get like this. I've stopped talking about what I make for lunch because I'm tired of being called a wanker because my lunch isn't a 3 microwave ready meal from tescos.

If you live in a hub city like london, manchester or edinburgh then you won't experience this. Go out into the country or a town in the north and you'll see it everywhere.

My office is in a relatively remote suburban/country town. People can be really weird about "posh" food, in the same way that brits in general are averse to posh-anything. It's another way the class wars manifest.

Hell maybe it's even worse in scotland
