I feel like it's more of a problem with how they cook and present it than the idea of the meals themselves. The concept of an "English breakfast" and others sounds fine, but most of the time the meals looks like they were cooked by folks who shouldn't be in a kitchen. I don't know what they do over there. It's like the both over and under cook things. That baked potato looked gross though. Way too much.

Then again I'm like 98% English heritage wise so maybe it's in my DNA to like this stuff. I know I could go for some beans and fries right now.

I might be English heritage wise, but I'm still as Murrican as it gets. Maybe Brits need some southerners over there to fix up their food. Our ancestors brought over those meals, but they were perfected down here.

As much flak Brits get for their food, it's not like other Northern European cuisines are much better, like Scandinavian or Finnish food. The climate makes them focus more on food as utility rather than presentation. And English food, for all its ugliness, is usually filling and hearty.

Nah, British food is fine. You just need to look deeper than a shitty video that went to a crappy greasy spoon, a quite obviously not very good chippy (seriously look at the state of those chips, that's a tragedy) and a Chinese were the person ordered an English meal to try and play it off like that's all they do.

Who wants black pudding, beans, tomatoes, and mushrooms for breakfast? This is closer to chili than any sort of breakfast.

Fish and chips is literally just run-of-the-mill fried fish with a side of flaccid, soggy potato wedges.

And "British" Indian food is Indian. You don't get to claim it as British just because British tried claiming India.

And let's not forget such British favorites as... beans on toast, and mushy peas.

There are a load of British people of Indian-descent, and Anglo-Indian cuisine is a big part of British cuisine now. Its the same as how Tex-Mex, Americanized Chinese and Japanese, and loads of Italian-American dishes including borderline countless regional variants of pizza are considered American cuisine now, just to name a few.

Ye, but then you can point out how most of the "British Indian/Chinese" is actually just stuff from Scotland/Ireland that the English just claim ownership over. For instance, tikka masala first happened in Britain... only when you dig into it the guy that claimed it also admitted that he made up the entire story about him creating it + didn't have the ingredients on hand needed to make it. Thus it would be pretty easy to say that the second place to make it, a restaurant in Scotland, is likely the real start for it.

Sure, but initial origin doesnt matter when it becomes an established staple and significantly modified in a new area.

Or, case in point, tea. We all agree that thats basically the non-alcoholic national drink of the UK even though tea is clearly not grown there, right?

Fair, though that's why tikka is Scottish and not Indian. The British rendition isn't any different: the only real change is where it is being sold.
