Don't worry. Disney will continue to spend hundreds of millions on movies they know will never break even let alone make a profit.

Nah. Perlmuttet was running the show, he flat out refused to let Marvel run movies like Black Panther and Captain Marvel until recently.

It's a shame how they really fucked up the rollout for Ms Marvel. Not making a simple Captain Marvel 2 was a really stupid decision too. Oh well.

Alarm bells have gotta be ringing at Disney. They're running out of safe tentpoles rapidly.

There's just so many issues after Endgame it's hard to find where to even begin.

Like it's taking so long for them to follow up on anything. Even Captain Marvel was over 4 years ago.

If Iron Man 2 wasn't Iron Man 2 and was instead called Armor Wars and didn't come out until 2012 I don't think that would have done as well either.

There are times when I'll watch a western from the 1960s or 1970s and be surprised to read that they underperformed. Then I'll remember how utterly oversaturated the western market was. I think superheroes have become the modern day westerns.

It could be that people are tired of, "You loved Guardians of the Galaxy, give these unknowns a chance." It could be that the genre itself is played out and people simply can't get excited for them the way that they could ten, twenty, or thirty years ago.

Endgame blew all the tension. No Way Home was in some ways a climax of 20 years worth of Spider-Man movies, too, so it's no surprise it brought in a metric ton of cash as well.

All the other MCU movies and shows since endgame have run the range from decent to bad, and none of the recent films have been great. Aside from Guardians 3, arguably, which is also a finale in many ways.

If people were still excited about the movie the mixed reviews wouldn't matter as much. Look at Mario.

But superhero movies aren't exciting by default anymore. WB and Sony are learning this lesson as well.

Even when they're good it's not the same. I don't think anyone would have predicted a few years ago that Oppenheimer would do better than GOTG3 and The Batman.

There is no passion in Marvel movies and there hasn't been since before Endgame, it's by the numbers focus group (and arguably always was) but I think it's more that people are just tired of them now. There's one every year and every single one of them is the same and all the more recent ones are characters that very few people actually give a shit about.

It's always the same -- start character development, find MacGuffin, undermine character development with jokes, make moar joke, defeat Big Bad, make another joke, credits, post-credit joke. It turned itself into a joke by undermining itself with jokes. When you turn your entire product into a joke, the consumers will treat it like one.

Captain Marvel was bland. It wasn't the worst movie ever, but it was like a "this is only entertaining for the moment I watch it" sorta thing. Also in End Game, she was obviously so powerful that she seems even lamer for her being some Deus Ex Machina solve-all resolution. She should be losing to Galactus in her movie. She could've beat Thanos before he was an issue but she has 'other things' to attend to??

The trailer also did not look good. This is not just because of girls or anything. I ended up watching Quantamania and I thought it was AWFUL.

But I honestly don't remember Wonder Woman getting flack until the sequels. For the most part, the response was positive. There were some people mad about her being an Israeli soldier, but that's the only controversy I remember.

In a film group Im elsewhere there have been a number of lukewarm reviews to The Marvels.

Im debating about seeing it today since its cheap movie Tuesday and Ive watched most the MCU movies.

I wanted a MCU movie to tank badly so that hopefully the execs would need to course correct the franchise and maybe save it from the assembly line style most of the movies have been on since phase 2. I didnt want The Marvels to be the one that came out all the way on the bottom and be forced to the jeers of the M-She-U YouTubers while having no critical defense for itself.

Stephen King is known for having some terrible opinions.

The answer to his question is that the only thing companies understand is money. When you believe something is on the wrong track, like many do with the MCU, the only time you can say "I told you so" with actual evidence is after box office failure...as that is the only metric that matters to these companies and the people who support them.

Of course Stephen King wouldn't understand a disaffected fan of Marvel, he is, by his own admission, largely indifferent to such content.

bruh the movie board is filled with people celebrating, claiming "superheroes are only for boys, not girls" and "maybe MCU will stop chasing the female audience and start focusing on their real audience" etc. (paraphrased opinions, but that's the sentiment). There is definitely a segment that are happy because they hate sharing their toys.
