When I was in high school New York had two math regents exams, A and B. A was mostly algebra, statistics and some geometry. B was mostly trig with some extra geometry and algebra. Our school had one semester classes 3 in each for both exams. I got to B1 before taking more remedial classes to graduate high school.

Edit-Forgot grad school which had an advanced statistics class.

In high school- Trig and College Algebra. I had no idea what was going on either part and barely passed.

College I took intro to statistics. I picked a major they required only one 100-level math class as a gen ed.

Geometery and Trig I can handle - but I was always more visual with my Math than reliance on formulas.

Dunno what the US equivalents are, but here we just have a single "maths" subject up to Year 12 (4th year of High School). In Year 13 (5th / final year) it splits into Statistics and Calculus; I completed Stats and started but didn't complete Calc.

i couldn't comprehend algebra to learn it (never seemed to need it in this lifetime for me).

it's required in high school graduation now (compared to 15 years ago).

Pre-Calc in High School, epic fail. I should have done Stats.

I ended up doing more in College. I got up to Trig and Business Stats. I would say Business Stats was the tougher of the two, probably the second most complex math class I ever took. Fortunately the Professor was very forgiving.

Edit: Actually I think it was Behavioral Science, not Business. Either way it was way tougher than basic Statistcs.

Have heard others say this as well. That the importance of math education is greatly greatly overrated esp. stuff like past algebra 1, that it does not mostly apply to anything , isn't used much after graduation...etc.... do most of you guys agree with this?

Yeah I'm 34. Originally when I was 18 I was majoring in computer science. But I kept changing what I wanted to do and learned a bit of several things. Computer Science, Film Production, Water Treatment Operator, and Police Officer.

Now I'm working on my BSIT degree and it's going pretty well. I'm 3 semesters in. By next summer I should be able to apply for the mid level IT position with the government (usually ends up being help desk).

It depends what you do, but the strong point of a math education probably isn't the math itself but the ability to learn and reason through things without someone holding your hand.

Funny enough, no. I have my CPA license. The only thing they care about is having over 150 units and taking the core accounting classes. Business Calc was the last math course I had to take in CC to transfer over to a university. And all Business Calc was is just Calculus with word problems.
