Electoralism has never and will never push the party left.

Trump didn't take over the Republican by giving a shit about "party elites." You take over the party by winning the actively engaged voters. In so many districts the winner is the person who wins the low engagement primary. Being actively engaged in the primary is how you take over the party.

And the party is further left than it used to be. Biden is further left than he and Obama were in 2008 who were further left than the Democrat party of the 90's. None of the student loan relief he's done would've happened with the Democrat party of 2 decades ago. 2 decades ago we'd fight abortion restrictions but not push for protections. 2 decades ago we wouldn't publicly protect the LGTB community. 2 decades ago a Democrat would never talk about gun violence during an election. Change is slowly happening and you can help or you can watch it take even longer.

Not same at all. She votes Republican every single time. She just likes to call herself an independent. Shes part of the reason Trump is dominating the Republican primary. Progressives who wont vote are shooting themselves in the foot. You take over the party by engagement.

In that case she's independent in name only. But I don't see how padding the vote of party leaders sends the message that said party leaders need to step off.

After Trump's election and the emboldenment of white supremacy as a result, you can't fault people for not taking too kindly to indifference or supporting an independent party that is never realistically going to win.

Thing is some people already viewed what America was doing beforehand as just as bad as the elements Trump popularized. Voting against fascism would require them to vote for things they view similarly negatively.

And especially since the Republican party is the way they are, those who "stood by their principles" in 2016 and didn't vote at all essentially made it easier for every woman they know to lose their right to bodily autonomy. So hope those people enjoy blowing themselves every night over how principled they are.

I imagine they aren't very invested in social issues.

Infrastructure bill, closing boyfriend loophole in the federal background check process, getting the economy rolling again during a pandemic, computer chip bill, supporting Ukraine, better incentives for green energy, stopping the attacks on DACA immigrants, stopping the Supreme Court from becoming 7-2 conservative-liberal aren't nothing.

The Dems are not a do-nothing party, they got a lot done in the 2 years they had Congress and the Presidency. I know it'll never be enough for people like you because you'll just say it wasn't enough and they could have done more, but some things like Biden standing with the union on the picket line was a first in history. The Inflation Reduction Act is objectively helping our nation. We have the lowest unemployment since the 60s. We've managed to avoid a recession and have one of the best inflation recovery rates with an economy frequently surpassing expectations. Billions in student debt forgiveness. A ton of confirmed federal judges. Child poverty was cut in half until all of the Senate GOP and Joe Fucking Manchin decided they couldn't have that. He's the first POTUS to work towards ending reaganomics by actually investing heavily into society and communities similar to FDR and Johnson. While he's done disappointing things regarding oil drilling permits, he's also been the one to invest most heavily into green initiatives.

What we've seen is that the more Dems gain control of federal government and the more they're able to pass the more good they do.

Yes, it would be way better if we had more progressives and they could go further, however absent of the rights and freedoms Republicans are taking away from us, this is one of the best spots our country's been in for decades.

As one of my favorite progressive pundits, John Fugelsang, likes to say, he likes old man Biden way more than 90s Biden because he's evolved on a ton of issues. He shows actual growth as a human, whereas the Republicans just deepen their degeneracy.

Anybody who doesn't see the Republican party for the actual and legitimate threat they are to this nation is not someone I feel is politically attuned or engaged enough to actually have a voice worth listening to.

There's nothing to feel about it. Factually he is one of the better presidents in quite a long time and got a lot done in a pandemic with the Congress he's been dealing with.

Hillary polled worse against the GOP than a candidate she was chosen over, it was all over the news that she was under FBI investigation when people voted for her to be the nominee, and it's public knowledge that the popular vote is irrelevant to the presidential election results. She was also losing primaries in some swing states.

Due to the cyclic nature of politics everyone knows it's hard to keep the White House for three races in a row; you need to be on your best behavior to do it, and instead Dems were on some of their worst. Instead of being shocked, people should've accepted that the Democrats took a pointless risk with their choice of nominee and it blew up on them.
