Make it easier to coming in legally, and also become stricter on illegal immigration.

There's no reason people have to save up thousands to come here.

Gallup estimated there'd be about 160 million immigrants. There would probably also be a lot of immigrants out of the US if anyone could move where they want to.

I do think a much bigger influx of non white people particularly might be healthy for the nation. I'm white myself. But I am so sick of white supremacists and their political influence . We need more diversity.

Legal yes.

Also make the legal process easier. I'd say an attempt to learn English. Hey if all they learn is some key words that will help em out in emergencies I'd take it. (Not that hard was the only English speaker in a job and they communicated with me with single words and hand gestures)

No recent criminal record or warrants.

And either have a marketable skill (aka able and willing to work) or just really in need of better medical help.

Every country is heading that way and immigration doesn't solve low birth rates. It exacerbates the problem.

The job vacancies are in certain sectors, which means it would have to be highly selective and not just whoever, otherwise it would just cause more problems. By 2030, a third of jobs will be automated, so you also have to take that into account.

I would not like to see it. I am not someone who thinks we need to shut the doors are anything like that. But we still have a lot of Americans who are out of work. Or are in jobs that greatly under pay them. Immigration would not help them.

Yeah, it does. The median age is 38. Millions upon millions of people have arrived since 1965, and it has lowered the median age from 41 to 38.

In order to solve low birthrates, you would need to bring in more and more children, going up by 30% every generation. Right now, most people coming in are in their 20s-40s and plenty bring their elderly too. So you would only be kicking the can down the road by a couple of years before you would need to bring in even more people.

Eventually it becomes unsustainable and adds to bulging 20s-40s population which will not have enough to care for them when they reach old age.

Ive spoken to a fair number of Americans who genuinely dont believe or cant comprehend that I dont want to live in the US. That would suggest that they believe that everybody wants to live there, which is simply not the case.

NJ is the most densely populated state and yet has enough farmland to feed itself. Broadly speaking, that means any other state can fit more people (and probably NJ, too).

Obviously. A great deal of people live here for a long time, go through the extremely extensive vetting process, fill out all the proper documentation, perfectly qualify, but are denied green cards because we have an arbitrary cap on how many are issued a year. The amount we issue should be an order of magnitude higher.

It's objectively good for the economy, and also just morally correct.

Yeah, the idiots who've let Republican propaganda warp their reality.

I mean just think logically. US has ~300m people, there's no way it 3xs the population just by allowing more people in.

Youve got the space for it but I believe there are also many areas not friendly enough for habitation. Itll take quite a while for the US to reach Asian or European levels of population density. Here in The Netherlands its way beyond fucked though, you should probably stop before it hits that point.

I don't think people realize how hard it is to come to America legally. Chinese people make up the fourth largest group crossing the border in Mexico. Let that sink in. People are flying to Ecuador and joining caravans to Mexico to cross the border illegally because it's easier than going to America under a visa.

One positive of climate change is that Alaska might eventually be more inhabitable after it warms up. My brother thinks Alaska will one day be the climate of what the states Oregon and Washington are currently. Alaska is massive. Most of it totally uninhabited by humans. If it was warmer, we could build so many cities in Alaska to house so many people

Its mayhem.
  • 15+ year waiting lists for housing
  • Some available housing is given to immigrants with priority, with some parties wanting more of that
  • Endless streams of expats, both universities and real estate companies want more of those since universities get paid for them and real estate can drive up prices since expats are subsidized
  • Some towns with asylum seeker centra have several times the amount of the towns population in the centra, and its causing lots of strife
  • Construction has been halted since there is a huge nitrogen emission crisis connected to this tiny country having an insane amount of farms for export since we want to somewhat control the worlds food supply, we are number 2 after the US despite being one of the planets smallest nations
  • No nature whatsoever, only buildings and people, the entire country is basically a city with suburbs
  • Projected to become Europes first megacity
