The only reason its not all the way there is because it doesn't have an ending as that is relegated to the third movie and what a massive shitshow that film is.

My only complaint with 2 is that I still don't understand how the dice game works and fuck the director for never explaining it.

3 things pissed me off about At World's End:

1, The Kraken dies offscreen. What could've been an awesome 2nd battle was completely ruined and thrown away, probably because of time or budget constraints or lazy writing

2, so many deals are made left right and center that the plot easily becomes convoluted

3, The last battle is a 1v1 instead of a massive pirate ship battle royale which, with every ship lined up seemed like it was heading towards

We play that all the time over here!

Everyone has 5 dice. You're supposed to say "There's at least X", X always having to increase in number.

This means person before you says for instance "Four Fives", you have to scale up either in number or in dice number. You can say "Five Fives" or "Four Sixes", but not "Four Twos". Someone eventually calls the person before them a liar, and everyone shows their dice. If the person who said the number is right, the caller loses a dice, if the person who calls the liar is right, the liar loses a dice instead.

Last remaining player wins. Losing dice is like losing lives and also gives you less and less information about the game.

There's more about the game, specially what happens with "aces", but that's after understanding the basics.

It's basically the matrix 2. Has a bullshit cliffhanger ending that needed to be resolved and both 3rd movies were disappointing.

Had a great villain, Davy Jones was a fantastic addition.

Had a great monster, the kraken was so hype especially back in 2006 it was legit awesome and terrifying

Liar's Dice was a game in RDR so this is how I know it. You're betting on how many of each number were rolled (you can look at your own). If I bet there's 2 1s, the next player has to either bet there are 3 or more 1s or bet on how many 2s there are, and so on. To end a round you can call out the last player who bet as a "liar" and everybody reveals their dice. If there's less than what they bet, they lose, but if they were right, you lose.

EDIT: Bah, beat me to it

The fight on the wheel is still one of the best fights I've seen in live action, so that went a long way to my enjoyment.

1 is still the best, though.

I don't trust anyone who doesn't like the 3rd film.

2 and 3 were made substantially worse by Beckett.

Dude's a total charisma sponge and completely bland as an antagonist. They were trying really hard to make him a "love to hate him" villain, but just don't hit it. Had the movies kept the focus on Davy Jones instead, it would have been way better.

Or, hell, give Beckett role back to Norrington. Would have been way more interesting, with that roller coaster journey of his.

Beckett is only in DMC (hey, that's a fun acronym) for like 5 minutes, so it's not too difficult to ignore him, but you're right.

I agree with everything else you posted, but my god was this ever a massive letdown in particular. For some reason I never think of Pirates 3 alongside other mid-00's threequel letdowns (X-Men 3, Spidey 3, Revenge of the Sith, Matrix 3), so I appreciate you reminding me.

Come to think of it, I'm more inclined to agree with the OP now that I remember I liked Dead Man's Chest pretty well, and the only reason I don't spare a thought for it nowadays is because At World's End caused me to retroactively dislike it.

I didn't care much for the sequels. I don't know, they just didn't seem nearly as cool as the first. I did like 2's ending with you know who popping back up. That was neat. I love the idea of them with all the various pirate/sea lore, but I don't think it was executed as good as it could have been. Not much stuck with me in my memory basically.

I haven't seen them since they came out, so I might need to revisit them.

I agree with the topic title and OP. Excellent movie until they didn't bother to write an ending.

The third movie is not good. Killing the kraken offscreen was just fucking lazy, they hyped up all these different pirate kings for them to end up doing absoltuely nothing, and having a whole movie about restoring Calypso's power only for her to just make a big whirlpool and do nothing else was lame as fuck.

Stranger Tides is really good and my personal favorite...

No Tales is just sad and a bad way to end the franchise even though they teased Davy Jones again and killing off Barbossa was just no...
