I've seen great games that's not deserving of any crap gets shit on. I've seen people reach far and wide to the stars and beyond to dig up for a dumb ass reasons to hate great games. However, I have never seen people give such a flawed game a big ass exceptional pass like I've seen people give Xenogears. In fact, I've seen people say the 2nc disc was the best part of the game. I didn't know so many people loved graphic novel video games. Did you?

Xenogears' story might seem quite clich these days, but that's because it invented the damn clichs.

Xenogears Disc 2 is why I cannot consider Xenogears one of the best JRPGs ever. It's a rushed and unfinished mess.

During that time Square thought having a shit storm of a plot meant it had depth and will automatically be good. They tried it with FF8 and Chrono Cross too.

It's one of the best novels you ever played, though.

Honestly, I love the idea of what Xenogears could've been with a little more time in the oven than the game itself.

Still actually enjoy the game but I almost always end up quitting disc 2. Even just a little better pacing than that exposition dump would've been amazing.

I'd have to play that game to give a fair judgement but I do like all the graphic novels that I've played. Phoenix Wright series if you count those and I loved Hotel Dusk: Room 215. However, I wouldn't like them in my JRPGs.

I've never played Vagrant Story but FFT's story was very easy to understand. It wasn't tryna fuck with timelines, inter-dimensional beings and multiple reincarnations.

Oh yes there were some charm to some of the arcs of the game. I personally liked the Prison Arc with Fei

I mean, I can understand hating the second disc, most people do.

But battle mechanics and such were fine imo. It did it's own thing instead of the norm, kind of like Legend of Legaia which is also a fairly decent game.

Well, there isn't any good reason to fight in human mode other than grinding for the deathblows. Want to grind for exp and money? The Gear battles is where it is at but sadly the Gears' strength isn't measured by the character levels. They're measured by Gear equipment so your Gears are only as strong as the town you're in LOL.

Oh and I thought we hated unskippable scenes and the ability to not change text speed? Guess those are more exceptions to this game?

Xenogears makes me sad because it could have been incredible

I played Hi-Fi Rush a few months ago and there's a part towards the end where they parody Xenogears infamous monologue and it made me laugh so hard

I only crap on the game as hard as I do because this game is given a huge pass for being as crap as it is. It's definitely one of the most overrated and overpraised game of all times.

Thats because the combo system was fun, the mech mechanics were fun, and the writing is leagues better than most JRPGs of the time. Its one of the best written stories in any medium and one of the small number of video game stories that are even memorable period, as most video game stories are shit.

You guys keep telling me the storyline is so damn great but I challenge that most of you guys don't remember even half of the storyline and what it's mainly about. Who is the main villain? What's their objective? How did the world of Xenogears came to be?

There's a gigantic lore dump in the beginning of the game so if yall haven't played the game recently I dunno how you still love the storyline when you prolly don't understand most of it now.

Having never played xenogears, it does seem pretty lame that you can't even play the second half of the game

Ya.. that second disc does hurt it, otherwise its still a game i look back fondly on and its still a hope of mine for Square-Enix and Nintendo to partner up to have Monolith soft create a full enhanced remake of Xenogears

I remember playing it with prior knowledge about the dreaded disc 2. When I got to those parts it was like 'huh, that it? Not that bad". Its a bit overblown. Sure it sucks its not playable, but the game wouldve probably been 100+ hours. The game is plenty long enough as it is and theres still a lot of playable story scenarios on disk 2.

I got a copy of Xenogears about 12 years ago or so and man I really really tried to like it. I just didnt and I never even finished the first disc.

Does XenoGears even have good or great gameplay? Or is it the Music/lore/characters/something else?

The gameplay is excellent. Arguably vying for top RPG on the PS as far as just the gameplay is concerned.
