I've never seen a single second of advertising for The Marvels but couldnt they just name it Captain Marvel 2 and a subtitle? Surly that would gather more audience.

I feel bad for the actress playing Kamala Khan. She actually does seem to love her role.

Big shock tbh, I thought for sure this movie would be a big hit. Since, you know, captain marvel made all that money on its own and not just because of endgame hype.

Apparently she was already a massive marvel comics fan before she ever even tried to get the part

How useful is this tracking stuff anyway? It's all just a bunch of people buying tickets because they hope it's good or not buying them because they guess it won't be. If a movie is good it's going to get good word of mouth regardless of pre-ticket sales. Or vice versa.

It's a bummer that this is gonna happen to this movie when it's the decisions that lead up to it that have overall let it down. Oh well.

Alarm bells have gotta be ringing at Marvel Studios though. They gotta change something and figure out a way to get people excited again.

Have they not tried calling ex marvel fans / critics bigots, racists, misogynist, sexist if they don't show up? I heard that marketing strat is pretty effective

It's incredibly hit or miss, and it only works for opening weekend. Some movies they can figure it out weeks in advance, others they're massively off on. The ones they're wrong about are usually ones with some oddness to them, like the Gentleminion thing last year. Minions opened way higher than expected because of all the teenagers.

Similarly, Top Gun opened way higher because the people that were going to it just simply aren't tracked. A ton of people who were going hadn't been to the theatre in decades. You simply can't expect that.

Ill honestly never understand the obsession that people have over how well a movie does at the box office.

Like, its obviously one thing if you profit from it, but otherwise, whats the obsession for?

Sequels. A lot of people didn't want The Flash to do good because they didn't want Ezra back. If it did good, WB would have kept Ezra.

Massive successes and flops influence what gets funded by Hollywood in the future.

Assuming this flops the question is going to be raised as to why one of the safest bets on Hollywood with Marvel Studios is no longer on a hot streak.

No reason to feel bad for her.

The Flash would have been decent if it weren't for the controversy. I say that because it's really uncomfortable watching the Flash do and say creepy things when you know what the actor was accused of.

Black Adam was actually good though. Pierce Brosnan killed it as Doctor Fate, and the Black Adam character and backstory was leagues better than what DC usually gives us.

Ouch. I'm skeptical of the MCU brand, but lower than Black Adam and The Flash is a low that I wasn't expecting their films to drop to.
I think Ms. Marvel's show had the fun of appeal of the CW superhero shows without the stagnation of a longer episode count, so I was hoping this wouldn't bomb.

Damn, that's crazy.

Lot of people are over superhero movies.

That goes for both Marvel and DC.

Revenue and quality haven't been directly linked since ever

2/3 of the titular Marvels got their start in Disney+ shows. Disney really miscalculated how many people would be tuning into the shows, and now nobody cares about their movies bc they don't have time to fully invest in the MCU anymore.

Bummer bc the run up to Endgame was amazing but it seems they've really lost their momentum

Im going to see it Thursday but Im not excited about it dammit

The Marvels is probably not even *bad* but for real I've seen very little ads of this movie outside of those trailers released months ago. I only found out it was out like yesterday. Doesn't help it's got a lot of homework tied to it.

Okay. If it fails I hope Marvel and Disney learn from their mistakes and start putting effort into their films. The problem is they are all the same and by the numbers. There is no longer a reason to watch them.

Can't wait till we go back to the 1940-60 era of Hollywood where every third movie released is a western when superhero movies finally die.

I'll second this. Many people hear the Marvels and have no idea what that is about. Sad for the other two actresses, but as Captain Marvel is easily the most recognizable due to existing outside of streaming, Captain Marvel 2: Subtitle would have been the way to go.

Its a lot of things. MCU has ran out of gas. Theres no story line to follow so unpopular characters have nothing going for them unless the movie is really good.

Also the movie just doesnt seem like a good idea? Ill probably watch it, cause I think it looks alright, but a good chunk of the movies story is LOCKED behind 2 tv shows, ome of them not being very popular.

This probably wouldnt have been greenlit during the peak of MCU

I wonder if this might be the biggest drop in perhaps revenue% that a sequel might ever have if the trajectory continues.

We're talking about a 1 billion+ dollar movie. Drops like this usually are over a series of movies, not like that.

Of course, if the movie is good, I think it has a decent chance at legs. GotG3 had an admittedly disappointing opening for the type of movie it was, but because it was considered great by many, it helped it move to a respectable box office.

Yeah, very weird to have two in that camp so close to each other! Although I didn't expect Aquaman 1 to do well, and it did what it did, so maybe 2 will somehow catch me off guard as well. While the internet won't forget about Amber, I wonder if the demographic that went crazy for Aquaman will care as much.

Then you figured wrong. Watching an excellent film franchise from inception to Endgame get killed and humiliated by a thousand cuts isn't fun. I'm rooting for a killshot, yes.
