I will say it's dumb that Nabbit and the Yoshis are the ones with this specific invulnerability. You should be able to pick whoever and turn it on.

If anything Gamergate made it worse. Back in the earlier days you at least had magazines or a show on TV that had some integrity. Nowadays it feels like its exclusively these pieces by hacks or some AI generated/generic crap

Be for Adam Sessler because a crazed mad man. I knew from him that it was shit when he defended the mass effect 3 ending. Note defending it on thing..but he could not defend it. Beyond saying it was great. At one point he even said aww I did even know what was going on. Then they had a journalist in the fucking game itself. Just bad

True. I know I tried to get my son to play as Nabbit in New Super Mario Bros, so that he wouldn't die so easily, but he was dead set on picking Mario

Yeah I agree. This is a feature that is really good for small children, but those are the exact people who would be the most disappointed at not getting to just choose the character they want

The funny thing is that when Gamergate was taking hold, games journalism actually wasn't the crap it is today. RockPaperShotgun had its original staff and was writing some really great journalism on gaming. Headlines were less click-baity. Articles were more substantive across the board. Gamergate did the exact opposite of what it set out to do. It let people write off criticism of games journalism as the domain of a bunch of incel neckbeards who want to lust over cartoon characters, and so the entire field was able to dive deep into its worst tendencies.

I think it kind of illustrates the need to always have the right criticism by the right people when there are problematic fields. If the wrong criticism by the wrong people is able to get all the oxygen, things will inevitably just get worst.

They tend to do they. Like if it is bad movie with a female or non white lead. They are going all in on that and not the badness of the movie. So people are going to write them off.
