I can't think of a singular standout experience. There were a ton of shitty games back in the Atari/ColecoVision/Intellivision days and honestly even on the NES there were some terrible games.

Telltale's Game of Thrones.

Insulting in the way it develops and executes plot lines. Any buildup leads to a wet fart of a payoff. It seems to fundamentally misunderstand the original materials storytelling, and attempts to replicate it with something approaching misery porn. A lot of the writing is just bad. The show characters turn up with very little justification. And the performance was dogshit.

I bought this game twice.

Clearest one I can remember is Superman 64.

I also rented some weird side-scrolling fighter game on PS1 a long time ago that was rather terrible compared to other games on the platform. Don't remember the name though.

Prob discworld 1. It's just nearly unplayable without a guide imo. You'll end up with like 50 inventory items (many are not essential) and since many of the solutions don't make logical sense the games forces the player to use every individual item on random things/npcs in the environment. There are many locations in the game so this can take a while. Also pretty sure you can get soft locked by going the wrong order in at least one part of the game. Super screwed if this happens and you are guideless lol. Could waste hours upon hours of time for nothing

That said the game is not bad with a guide. I think its very entertaining. Good voice acting and humor imo. I like its art style and music too l

But I went guideless for like 20 hours befofe I folded and used a guide. Was barely making progress. I got sick of hearing rincewind say "that doesn't work" hundreds of times. So the game gave me such a terrible impression.

Project x Zone comes to mind for an actual, widespread release that I played that was that bad.

The cool crossover stuff lured me in, but the story was nothing, the strategy element was very drawn-out and tedious, and the individual combats were all exactly the same and grew stale extremely fast. I fell asleep playing the game multiple times because it was that boring, and I eventually conceded that I couldn't keep going when I realized I still had several chapters to go and was already despising the game.

There might be some random shovelware game I've played that's worse and that I've forgotten, but in terms of a major release that I bought at full price? PxZ has to at least be near the top. For a game that looks as flashy and cool as that one, it's the video game equivalent of watching paint dry.

I got stuck, and used a guide, to pass some alleyway mouse hole puzzle.

That Universal Studios game on Gamecube. It seemed like a fun idea, exploring an amusement park and the rides being turned into mini-games. But it was so so bad. I think it was the only time I ever returned a game to the store.

Whatever that prince of Persia was that was after the t rebooted series but before that cell shaded one.

The prince moved like his pants were full of sand, the animations were super stiff and it just looked like ass despite the devs coming off of Two Thrones which was such a fun game.

I bought it at a GameStop and returned that afternoon, thankfully there was a guy working who pretty much understood what my issue was and let me return it for a full exchange. Thats when Red Dead Redemption caught my eye.

I've played several bad games over the years, so I'm just going with the one I most remember playing that wasn't good.

Michigan: Report from Hell. This game doesn't suffer from bad or broken gameplay mechanics as other bad games tend to do. It's just kind of boring to play. It's a horror game where you play as a cameraman in the style of the Blair Witch Project/Found Footage type of movies. You're following around a news reporter lady and the boom mic guy around various locales in Michigan. Occasionally running into a monster here and there, though the game suffers from not giving you much to do in between the long gaps when enemies show up.

You spend the bulk of the game watching various NPC dialogue and them slowly moving around at a snail's pace from place to place. The action in the game is pretty much quick time events and telling the reporter lady where and when to shoot her handgun at the monsters. I don't remember much of the game's story as it's been a lot of years since I played it, other than it not making much sense in what was going on. Voice acting was also bad. Although I do want to some day return to that game just to see if I can learn anything more of the game's story.
