If you rate a game via 50 points on a basis of 10/10 over 5 categories, if the game scores 40/50 because it gets 10/10 in music, graphics, etc. but 0 in a very important category (control) does that mean it's a good game overall, or a horribly crippled one because it lost those 10 points in the most important category? I can understand not agreeing with it being a 90+ game, but 6/10 is lol worthy. Mario games don't typically break new ground the way they used to, but they're competently made without any big technical issues, and they stick close to a formula that's fun if a little safe

6/10 is for weird janky shit that sometimes breaks but has enough charm to stick with it

It does yes, & that's why for the same reasons I jumped off of CoD after Black Ops 2, got bored of MH for a fair bit of time after I'd done so much in World & jumped on Rise only once I got a steam deck two years after it launched & was on sale.

Series' need to innovate over time & Mario doing a new gimmick for another platformer doesn't change up the formula enough for me. Look at wild hearts for instance which was a "we have monster hunter" at home meme. The unique building mechanic for fighting monsters, didn't ultimately save that game even though MH could do with competition. Partly because EA/Koei didn't want to invest in it, but also because it doesn't have name brand recognition to carry it.

There's something about MH's formula that does it for me. It's like a drug. I just play and play for thousands of hours, multiple times. Now granted, the gameplay changes every game since there are always some new attacks, armor skills, and monsters, but man, I just don't get tired of MH. I remember when people praising Wild Hearts as the MH killer and now look at it. Dead lol. It never stood a chance anyway though. People are stupid.

I'll definitely agree that people and reviewers seem to shill for Nintendo games almost on autopilot. The Pokmon games are easily the greatest proof of this. People were still trying to praise Scarlet and Violet like they were gifts from God when they were straight, hot garbage.

Not sure if pointed out, but this is the first 2D Mario to score in the 90s since the SNES games.

I've put about that amount of time into MH3U & 4U, then World, so yeah I've definitely just hit my threshold with MH. But overall Capcom does try to keep the series more fresh than others I'd argue especially when you look at the crazy movement possibilities in Rise. Which is why I will advocate for it as they don't just introduce a gimmick like monster riding then drop it, they carry it over while nailing more onto the roof for the next game. It is very satisfying though to play & has held up about as well as a niche-ish series can when you consider how old it is.

But yeah wild hearts could have had potential, but I saw the writing on the wall myself as you've seen too & shit's dead in a year basically it's sad. But that was probably going to be the only outcome when it concerns EA, & Koei isn't known for really polishing what they put out.

I don't want people to agree with my thoughts because I like confirmation bias, I want people to agree because they see what's happened with Pokemon especially, or Nintendo IP in general. People being willing to call out sword & shield & scarlet & violet is imo a miracle considering the franchise's size. Only by criticizing it does it improve. If you or someone else doesn't like my views that's fine, I just especially will not react kindly to discourse like what Torgo has done, when for others I've attempted at least to explain my thoughts before I give up.
