He spent the entire topic shitting on Metacritic and that Wonder needed to be rated higher. Someone told him it was the highest rated 2D game since the SNES. He double downed on Metacritic being bad because of this fact, implying the score was too low.

Trickfinger doesn't understand the idea of implications though, so don't bother trying to claim he did anything without directly repeating the exact quotes he makes.

Okay I've played up to the first boss and... it's fine. Hopefully they ramp up the crazy stuff that I've seen small glimpses of. But so far it really is fairly standard in a way I wasn't expecting.

As for Wonder, I couldn't say anything about it other than I'm getting it tomorrow. Looks like a fun game to play with friends and family.

Odyssey & Mario Rabbids did something new to make an old genre new again by changing the gameplay & mechanics to make playing as Mario in a 30th game more interesting. Wonder is just another 6/10 2D Mario game with a new gimmick like pokemon that they'll abandon for the next game that does something slightly different. Before it was turning into cats while doing this, then it was the crown, now it's elephants, next it'll be some other gimmick people will forget about in a year.

The cat thing isnt even from a side scrolling Mario game its from 3D World. Elephant is just the new power up. Nothing wrong with a new Mario game getting a new power up. The new gimmick is the wonder flower effects which is far more innovative than anything weve seen in side scrolling Mario in decades. The only relevant metric to compare it to is how it stands as a new side scrolling Mario game. 3D games like Oddysey and spin-offs like Rabbids are irrelevant unless youre making the case Mario should never be side scrolling again. Compared to the NSMB line of games its a huge breath of fresh air.

Also we are in post-bg3 era so I expected this Mario game to get 8s or lower cuz it doesn't do anything innovative. In vids it just looks like regular 2d platformer but a bit wacky? maybe but warioland already did that stuff before.
I guess Mario game can do whatever they want

my issue is that we have long since passed the point where we expected a new take on the side-scrolling mario formula, and just can't even pretend to have any interest in it after so long

Wonder is fun, the badge system is cool and changes up Mario's moveset. The Wonder flowers are neat gimmicks that change the levels in interesting ways. Level design has been fun. I'd give it an 8 or 9 if it stays consistent, but we'll see how much time it gets once I start playing Spider-Man

At the very least switch up the designs or music. SMB1 through SMW2 had no issue doing this.

Any game that I can 100% in less than 10 hours is a 7/10 maximum to me, not sorry

I definitely need to agree to disagree. It depends.

If I enjoyed that sub-10 hour game to hell and back and want to keep replaying it, it's much better than a 40 hour game that I had to struggle to complete by the end.

I'm a consumer not a Nintendo stockholder so I couldn't care less about their sales numbers

I'm not going to go to McDonalds to eat a burger just because they sell a lot of them when there's a small business around the corner that makes a tastier burger

A 40 hour 2D Mario game sounds pretty miserable to me personally. Not every game and genre justifies that long of a playtime.

Like I said if you want long games that's why most are open world and filled with 'content'
