Nobody has actually wanted to be speaker for the republican party in years. What moron are they going to drag into this, since they've already thrown out moron #1 and told moron #2 to stuff it?

the speaker position is high profile. gets your name into a lot of content.

the problem is having to do the job. you have to work with democrats to do it.

rthe base hates republicans having any contact with democrats. so it's a dangerous job from that standpoint

For Republicans, it's the worst job you can get. You have to compromise with Democrats and the President. Basically you become a Rino the second you get that job.

Absolutely no one who voted to overturn the 2020 election results. I dont care how much pressure they were under to do it. No one who tried to overturn a legitimate election should be in any position of government, let alone speaker of the house.

For as long as the GOP remain the majority, the only candidate that will ever make speaker will be an election denier.

That's the reality of the cult.

The whole problem Republicans have to acknowledge is that nobody holds a majority in this House. You have two separate parties calling themselves Republicans who refuse to support the others' candidate. This is going to go on and on and on until one of them decides to just work with the Democrats.

The problem with the moderates is that they aren't just voting against the frontrunner, but they're also not voting for any serious options at all.

They're voting for candidates like McCarthy and Scalise who've withdrawn from the running or dudes like McHenry who don't want the job and have literally threatened to retire if empowered.

The only alternative anywhere in the forecast is Tom Emmer, and he got 1 vote from a guy who admitted it was a troll vote and that Emmer would actually suck at the job.

If they could at least unite behind someone who's actually willing to be Speaker it'd help the party not look like a bunch of piss babies.

The real problem is the moderates aren't being listened to. Despite not wanting to run themselves, they said the person the person should not be an election denier. Unfortunately the only people that seem to really want the job are election deniers.

Their protest votes are showing the Republican party exactly what they mean. Anyone but this guy.

Because Jim Jordan would have been a disaster.

But they voted for McCarthy, who voted to overturn the 2020 election. And a lot of them supported Scalise, who also voted to overturn 2020 and in his own words is, "David Duke without the baggage." McHenry is the only non-election denier they've seriously backed.

Their opposition clearly isn't to fascism or racism but just to letting a Freedom Caucus guy run the chamber, because they would rather the party collapse than let another wing gain control of it.

Voting for McCarthy going along with the party to get things done before and having it backfire may have been the straw that broke the camels back.
