I have seen movies say this and tweets people saying a teacher said this. Then the students prove the sanitation workers make more than a teacher ? It seems to be like a trope, but I couldn't think of this being a real thing so much that it becomes of trope. Because teachers don't get paid shit, I don't see many clowning on other people who don't make shit. Besides maybe fast food workers ( sadly the job that everyone craps on).

I have heard neither, and yeah I laugh when hearing how little teachers make and how much more a sanitation worker makes.

Yes, it does seem like there are a lot more pointless ways to spend your life than being a garbage man, since society definitely needs some way to move garbage away from where people make it.

Pretty sure I heard it between primary and middle school. Don't rember which faces actually said it.

One of the first things people will hate when society has a break down is trash building up and people looking for a place to put it.

Sanitation workers are never appreciated until they are not there and people realize how good it is when they take the garbage away from dumpsters and resident housing each week.

Both teachers and garbage men are essential workers who are undervalued and, certainly in the case of teachers, disgracefully underpaid.

Garbage men still make good money, and for those who do not give a shit about low status job they probably live a nice life.

Guys who stay in shape and learn how to prepare for shit weather will be just fine with that work.

Working in a rendering plant with appropriate footage would be a way better deterrent. Pay is alright, but I would take being a garbage man ten times over.

That's blue color work in general. Never appreciated until you need it.

The pay seems solid but garbage collectors have some of the highest injury rates of any profession. Being around garbage smells all the time can't be pleasant. They should be making much more

I honestly cant imagine a job where there are more potential ways to get hurt.

Stepping down off a truck, picking loose or unsteady objects, traffic; if your knees dont give out eventually your back definitely would.

A garbage man was the first thing I ever wanted to be as a little kid. No Joke.

When I was 3 or 4 my parents were friends with the dude who collected our garbage. He let me come up into the truck a few times and he'd bring me around the block. I thought it was the coolest thing ever.

Never ended up becoming one though.
