https://www.msn.com/en-gb/news/other/pythagoras-theorem-found-on-tablet-that-is-1-000-years-older-than-pythagoras-himself/ar-AA1hCPzr

Archaeologists have found the equation on a Babylonian tablet which was used for teaching back in 1770 BCE centuries before Pythagorass birth in around 570 BC, as IFL Science notes.
Another earlier tablet, from between 1800 and 1600 BC, even features a square with labelled triangles inside.
Translations of the markings, which followed the base 60 counting system used by ancient Babylonians, prove that these mathematicians were familiar with Pythagorean theorem (although, obviously, they didnt call it that) as well as other advanced mathematical principles.

Basically. Its not that rare for knowledge to become lost and then be rediscovered.

Babylonians were able to work out when & where planets & stars would be in the sky. They were actually very advanced in math. The shit used by astrologers back in the day to track stuff in the sky is used by astronomers today just without all the prophetic nonsense.

Pytharogas's Theorum is just a simplified right angle triangle version of the Law of Cosines anyway.
What a fraud!

(As someone who's always attested that we've probably had several human civilizations destroyed and forgotten about before recorded history and always detested the "ancient aliens did it!" narrative that assumes the few things we do find are assumed to be too smart/advanced for our "dumb" ancestors, all these recent findings like the 700,000 year old building remnants please me greatly)

Yea it actually happens a lot in math. Calculus itself being one of the most famous examples as it was invented independently by Newton and Leibniz.

I mean, it's not that difficult a formula to derive. If you work with building structures and similar things and didn't know about it there's a good chance you would discover it by chance or be intuitively using it without knowing what you stumbled in to.
