Jets are so desperate for offense that they fake a punt on their own 19 in the first quarter.

Wow.
Romo trying so hard to will this into a game.

"huge moment for the jets"

is it, though?

edit: lol yep just delayed the punt by 3 plays

At some point by the end of the year, heads will roll in East Rutherford, that's for sure. Just a matter of who and when. Doubt it's Daboll, as his desperation challenge was on account of inexperience, but the Giants' front office, Rob Saleh, and also the Jets' office are all vulnerable for varying reasons.

I'd think Danny Dimes' massive contract is the biggest problem. It's preventing the Giants from having cap room to sign good players (which Dimes is not).

Saleh should be fine, none of this shit is on him and he's helped coach this defense into a Top 5 one. Honestly I feel like the Rodgers stuff, which is the root cause of this, came from ownership so there will be no accountability.

They probably just write this off as a wasted year because of Rodgers's injury but if there are firings it'll be the wrong people.

idk about the giants

I don't know what heads could roll for the Giants, it's too soon to bail on Daboll and they can't bail on Jones

Salah and Douglas aren't going anywhere after Rodgers got hurt. They get next year with him. His injury basically guaranteed those two keep their jobs.

But then when next year fails Rodgers retires and those two are gone.

Giants will cut Jones and probably fire everyone in two years. The contract essentially gives them an easy out after year two. I never liked the contract to begin with despite it.

Both NY teams will be in full on rebuild and/or tank on two seasons.

The Giants look like they quit on the season down 19-0 against Dallas. Daboll is panicking. It's an awful look like everyone.

There was no reason not to sign jones imo. It's always easier in hindsight the moment that the dude sucks, but if the giants don't sign him they're dead in the water for several more years anyway, at least. Yes it's a lot of money but jones also had his best season last year, it's not like there was 0 reason to believe he would continue to improve. Commanders had the same problem when they had kirk cousins, and they haven't been relevant since they decided not to pay him. You just have to pay the guys and if they don't work out, then oh well. But you don't just not take the shot.

Was checking the schedule to see if the Bears play the Giants this year as that would be the game where I wouldn't know who to pick to win.

A quick glance at the Bears schedule and as a Bears fan I'll probably pick them to lose every game (which won't happen but seems the most likely result)

You didn't need to pay Jones this year, and you certainly didn't need to pay him 40 million a year.

He's exactly the reason the franchise tag exists.

I don't agree. He was an adequate QB asking for great QB money. You let him shop around and, when nobody wants to sign him for his asking price, you can get him for cheaper. If he does get a deal elsewhere for that money, then another team is in a bind while you get to rebuild. The Giants put themselves into cap hell just to sign a QB who was asking for far more than he's worth. So they're dead in the water because they signed him instead.

Also... the Commies didn't think Kirk Cousins was worth that kind of money. And if what he's done (or hasn't) in Minnesota since is any indication, they may have been right.

Giants feel like they've already lost before halftime against the most obviously tanking team in the league in a game everyone thought they needed to win by double digits to get any good feeling back into their season.

I genuinely have no idea how this gets better from here. They look like the worst team in the NFL by a wide margin.

I think someone else would have signed him. And I don't think it matters to teams if you have to spend another 5 years before you can rebuild due to a bad contract vs starting a rebuild earlier. If you let a guy go and he actually turns out to be good, then you just boned your franchise and probably lost your job just like you would have if the guy you signed turns out to be bad.

I concede the tag would have been the best idea, but if jones said "either sign me at this or I'm leaving if you tag me" then I think they had to do it. Teams just don't have the leverage when it comes to QB imo.

You mention the commanders, have they done any better? If you're telling me they're better off having not paid cousins, I think that's crazy, cousins' critiques aside.

That's not fair!

They can achieve that even if Saquon stays healthy. They've been outscored 60-0 in 6 quarters of football, and one of their opponents is tanking so hard that Thomas the Tank Engine is threatening to sue. Take Barkley out, and the team could potentially go scoreless all season.

Didn't the Giants shift all his 2023 to 2024 and beyond which they couldn't have done if they tagged him? Not that it seems to have helped them this year and I agree a tag would have been better but that may have been why they did it, to free up cash this year.

Not as familiar with the NFL cap shenanigans as the NBA though so maybe I'm looking at it wrong

You mentioned the Commies. I mentioned that it was irrelevant.

Also I'd say Cousins is better than Dimes. Dimes wanting that $40 mil a year for how little he's accomplished is insane. The Giants screwed themselves by giving him that ridiculous contract more than they'd have screwed themselves by letting him go elsewhere. Most he could've gotten elsewhere is probably like $32 mil. And then he's a different team's dead weight.

I said easily.
And to be honest, Cardinals aren't exactly the tank team we think they are. They're bad, but the worst thing they can technically do is tank. What would the Cardinals be taking for? Caleb Williams? Penix if what he did to MSU holds up? With Kyler's contract, the only reason they can tank is to negotiate with a QB needy team. Who tanks purposefully to trade their #1 overall pick?

Hence why they might be happy they aren't getting that #1 overall with this Giants team.
