People are bothered that police shot a pregnant woman over shoplifting.

Repeating this doesnt make it any more true than the first time you were wrong about it. She wasnt shot over shoplifting.

Yes, I have condemned many cases of police violence. Somebody getting shot for trying to drive through cops to escape arrest for shoplifting is not getting shot for shoplifting. Youre being incredibly dishonest to spin the narrative you want.

The litany of more egregious, dangerous and lethal crimes committed after the fact dont matter one bit. According to the top brass of CEs lawmen that is. As long as the crime you initially committed is pretty minor. You can get away with anything.

You dont know when guns were drawn. Seems more likely to me that they were drawn after she continually ignored commands to exit the vehicle and they suspected she might try to drive through them to escape.

Stealing a few bottles of alcohol is a misdemeanor. She probably wouldn't be arrested for it. Just given a citation to appear in court.

Fleeing from the police is a felony.

So why turn a misdemeanor into a felony for no reason? That makes no sense. There had to be a reason.

She attempted to run over a cop because the cop attempted to detain her.

The cop attempted to detain her because she stole.

Having just seen that this woman could have been waving a gun around and pointing it at people, and got taken alive a little too roughly, and you dudes would still be against every action the cops took, it's hard to take your righteous rage seriously.

"Two officers arrived and located the suspect, a male believed to be in his 40s, in his car. He was ordered to step from his car. After he got out, he physically resisted officers. Officers were able to get the suspect into handcuffs and noted he appeared to be suffering medical distress. Officers called for an ambulance. ACTHUALLY just from 2005 to 2017 80 officers were convicted of murder in the line of duty. And that is considered a low number compared to how many definitely did commit murder but we didn't have ten times the evidence needed to convict any ordinary citizen to counteract the official police statement.

Think of how many Philip Brailsford's were acquitted.

oh, and when thinking of how many officers like Brailsford are out there. You know, officers who's body camera shows them commanding an innocent unarmed man to stay still, then to crawl towards him, then shoot and kill him for moving, all with a delightful "You're Fucked" written on their gun, and WAS ACQUITTED... for each and every one of those, think of how many other times the same officers behaved the same way and were never found out.

But stealing isn't that bad. She shouldn't have been detained for that because they shouldn't have called the police in the first place.

Therefore, the store assistant who alerted police is in the wrong.

.....that's the insanity being spewed here. And as usual, it's juxtaposed against claims of other extremes. "You want police to kill all black shoplifters. All police are evil. You boot licking for the government." Yada yada yada.

At best it can be ascertained that the bodycam footage might reveal more information which could vastly change my opinion. I'm willing to agree to that.

But at the moment it seems like a sad situation to happen while committing a crime.

She was defending herself from someone threatening her life, then. And since he was the one who threatened lethal force first, there is no justification on his part for self-defense.

That...that is not being a responsible human being.

Police don't prevent crime, they only respond to it. They are a reactive social and cultural force. There is no prevention in their work. They either interrupt a crime in commission or they solve a crime after it's been committed.

And you know what? You shouldn't call the police unless someone is threatening someone's life or some other imminent, existential, public danger. Police only know how to do one thing, and until they're trained to do more than one thing (or at least be taught how to call someone who is trained and then back the fuck off), calling them is a bad idea.

If you call them and someone dies? That's on your head.

Your entire argument hinges on this. It's not attempted murder, it's attempted escape. The cop put himself in the way of the car and refused to move.

Literally watch the steamroller scene from Austin Powers and try to tell me that the guard had no way to get out of the way of the extremely slow moving steamroller

Things happen so fast. Officer saved everyone in that parking lot from being hurt. Shoplifter turned their car into a weapon and would run over anyone in that instance.

Does the vehicle not have a license plate?
Is the license plate not registered to an address?
Can the police not pull that information?

Assuming you said yes to these three, what's more likely to go horribly wrong - causing a fight or flight situation with a suspect in a vehicle, or jotting down her info and arresting her at her house later

By your reasoning any attempt at an arrest is causing a fight or flight situation and thus shouldnt be done.
