I know a lot of people had issues with it, and I mean people with legitimate issues, not those complaining about: wokeness, agendas, SJWs, "politics", etc.

however, for me, it's the GOAT.

Mass Effect Andromeda wasn't as bad as people said

Although I suspect I would have been disappointed if I played it with no expectations rather than with the internet collectively shitting on it.

Also Better Call Saul if we count TV series. I was fully in the "WTF is this lame cash in garbage? Let the series rest!" when it was annouced.

But it's a kickass TV Show

My most recent example is Marvel: Midnight Suns. I heard a lot of negative things about it before purchase, but I had a blast with it. As a comics nerd, I found the stuff in the Abbey fun. There was absolutely too much of it by the end, but hanging out with Cap and Blade, and Spider-Man being goofy was kind of....great? And the combat was super fun. Throwing people into exploding barrels, off of ledges, and into portals to Hell (!!) never got old.

That wasnt disappointing? That lived up to the expectations I had for it?

I mean there are alot of them. I mean really, there are a ton of games that gave me exactly what I wanted from them.

For example - Red Dead Redemption 2 gave me a great story, an immersive world to get lost in, some witty characters, solid mission design, and so much to do that I didnt mind spending $60 on it.

Elden ring, I didn't even know it was a souls game from soft when I brought it based purely on the hype and was not disappointed in the slightest.

Otherwise if I'm actually keeping track I can judge most games based purely on gameplay videos.

Crash Bandicoot. It solidified my acceptance of my dad having bought a ps1 instead of a 64.

Diablo 3

Well if we're talking about games that were disappointing to others, then I thoroughly enjoyed Cyberpunk 2077. Played the hell out of that when it first came out. Didn't experience any of the problems that others were having.

That's a toughie. Even my favorite games had something disappointing about them: New Vegas had a bad launch, BotW had a weak final boss and ending, etc.

I guess I'd have to dig back to the classics like Final Fantasy 6 and Chrono Trigger for games that, apart from a nitpick or two, didn't have any aspect that genuinely disappointed me. Mario Kart: Double Dash!! also springs to mind. Portal's an obvious choice as well.

Yeah, both of those exceeded my expectations. I went in expecting good games, but they were among the best of their respective series/genres.

Mass Effect Andromeda legit pisses me off, because there was so much about that game that was actually good. The combat is probably the best in the whole series. Some of the main quest missions were very interesting, and there were some great side quests-especially the ones involving the individual characters.

But so much of the good was undone by bad design decisions. Specifically: Those good quests were piled under fetch quest after fetch quest in every hub. Collect plants. Collect med kits. Collect ship pieces. And while you are at it, go into the same boring enemy area 500 times. The game got so much better once I gave myself permission to ignore the pointless quests being shouted at me in every hub area. But players shouldn't have to slog through that stuff to get to the good stuff.

I have never seen a game shoot itself as badly in the foot as MEA did. I will never understand why the developers took something good and then piled a bunch of crap on top of it.

Recently Elden Ring

Red Dead Redemption 2 is a rare example of a game I was impossibly hyped for actually going well beyond my expectations. Like, it absolutely needed to be brilliant in order to follow up RDR, which used to be one of my favorite games of all time. I say "used to" because I can't enjoy it nearly as much as I did before RDR2 completely outclassed it in every way.

Add in dragon quest 11 definitive edition for me.

FF16. I didnt have any good expectations after 15 and I had 0 interest in 14 so I didnt know what to expect from this Yoshi P fella.

Kingdom Hearts III actually, unlike apparently the majority of people who played it

Mario Odyssey exceeded all my expectations.
