Its pretty bad. Car insurance is also up a bunch too. The cost of living is terrible in any major metro area.

Florida politics are going to get really interesting if he continues to struggle nationally. The legislative session starts in January. Last year the GOP all fell in line because he was presumed to be a legit presidential contender. If that changes the party may splinter. There are also two special elections that will be finished by then. The democratic numbers will tell a lot.

Nothing. The system was on fire and he chose to ban books and drag shows to get national attention instead of address an ongoing problem.

He was too busy fighting a cartoon mouse than to deal with negotiating with the insurance companies. Due to the inclement weather the state is prone to, the companies required assistance from the state but since they received none, many of the companies just closed up shop and left.

Literally nothing, and that's the problem.

He did nothing to address it because he was too busy making sure Teachers get fired if they tell their students they got engaged to someone of the same sex, and forcing them to teach their students that Slavery was actually beneficial to many Africans because it taught them skills that they were able to use to get jobs once they were freed.

The increase in the number and severity of storms isn't DeSantis' fault. It's the result of decades of the U.S. and others failing to meaningfully address climate change.

What could be done on the state level is the government subsidizing insurance premiums. Taxing rich people to help pay for regular people's insurance is a very un-Republican thing to do, but it's either that or people get priced out of being able to live there.

The entire state, in aggregate, also dislikes taxes. All you'll get out this is a mass exodus of retirees, to Wyoming or something.

Way to give Wyoming two more congressmen.

Good. Then all that would be left in Florida are poor people that can't afford to move and vote blue.

I'll trade Florida's 29 electoral votes for Wyoming's 3.

I'm not even sure how you "fix" the issue in the sense that insurance is intended as a mechanism to manage risk against unforeseen bad stuff happening.

I don't see how any sort of insurance can work if the bad stuff is happening all the time. No business model can operate on paying out every year because Florida keeps getting hit with stuff every year.

You could raise taxes and use that money to fund infrastructure that can tolerate disasters better, for one. You could work with ins companies to subsidize costs, for two. But no, DeShitStain would rather fight a cartoon mouse and implement fascist policies that are going to bankrupt his state as he attempts to run for president to leave it all behind. Anyone who votes for him is a deluded, braindead imbecile.

All DeSantis/Republicans have to do is say it's Democrats'/liberals'/drag queens/'transgender peoples' fault. They don't' have to have any proof either. A republican could punch one of their supporters right in the face and immediately say a Democrat did it and the supporter would believe them.

Florida, however, is the site of 79 percent of all homeowners insurance lawsuits over claims filed nationwide while Floridas insurers receive only 9 percent of all U.S. homeowners insurance claims,

Yea Florida alone is more than all other states combined last I checked.

Not that Desantis is off the hook. As others have pointed out, its his lack of action that is the concern. Like there really is a huge housing crisis in FL that is about to burst and this dude is out there fighting trans people.

I'm not sure how funding infrastructure is going to make hurricanes stop coming. You might be able to mitigate some of the damage through pouring money into it but seeing as the hurricane problem is only getting worse I'm not sure that's a winning strategy.

This, same with Texas. The only way to handle this is either 1. Mass exodus or 2. Simply decide that you are going to cover everything without regard to profit or expense.

Seems the most likely outcome is to slowly and then quickly descend into catastrophe and ruin, leading to an involuntary and unmanaged option 1.
